There was 1 min. 23 sec. left in the auction. Just for giggles, I bid 276.00..... I WON! (if you call it winning) Now what?! I can't believe I was so impulsive. Hope I didn't pay too much (include 25.00 shipping). Norse(my wife is gonna kill me)man1 P.S. check it out, http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=894367829&indexU... On the up side, it's a deep bowl (I think/hope!) [ July 24, 2002: Message edited by: Norseman1 ]

For 300.00 you could be the proud owner of a Balladeer, and save my marriage ta boot! Norse(what do ya say Cliff)man1 p.s. You know, actually I was saving money up for a CS257 and to be honest, it was mainly because I liked the way they look (with the feathers [sorry, I meant leaves]and all)! but in the long run, I think my plain Jane Balladeer will suite me just fine for tone(if it's anywhere near my old beat up Legend). Don't underestimate that "plaine jane" Bally! It'll surprise you. My lead guitarist has a new Fender acoustic, and one of the salesmen at work here has a new, lower end Martin and the sound of my CB pisses all over both of them! PLUS..at least you'll be able to plug this one in!!! And if by chance your not happy with it, you should be able to sell it and recoup somewhat easily (IMHO). Feeling better now? Now...as far as the marital help goes...I'm not the one to ask. I flew my marriage into a mountain 3 years ago!

Of course, I did just buy a Lawerence pick-up, and an Audio Technica instrumental mic for picking up my Legend. In addition, I recently purchased a CA60 acoustical amp. (haven't even received it yet). I know it's under powered, but I like the tone they have. I suspect it would work in a small live performance, and I hope to use it for recording. Speaking of recording, did you add anything to the Ovation CD Al is putting together? Norse(I would send in a song, but I don't want poor Al to get a hernia laughing at it)man1 [ July 24, 2002: Message edited by: Norseman1 ]

I FINALLY have two consecutive weekends with no gigs to do, so I'm hoping to get that accomplished. I'll pass on the 12-string, thank you. I'm holding out for a new, warranteed Adamas 12 that I will want to physically PLAY and listen to BEFORE paying for. Ergo, eBay is NOT an option!

You will the lottery? sell a couple of the kids ? Is your wife collecting singles in a strip club? did a relative die and leave you some cash???? I know that gov jessie couldn't have given teachers that big of a raise and the salary for summer school stinks which is why I never did it.... On second thought don't tell me it will ruin the fantasy..... btw miles also judges the entries for the Cd it is not my sole project [ July 24, 2002: Message edited by: alpep ]

Even though it had some problems, I played it, and loved it, and couldn't bring myself to buy a guitar from e-bay that LOOKED like a better deal. Oh my how things have changed! I guess it's like those candy bars and odds&ends items in the check-out lanes at Wal-Mart. Impulsivity will be my demise! I can't believe myself! I hope I luck out on this one. A lesson (and a spendy one) has been learned by ol Norseman today! Norse(good thing I'm not the President!)man1

I have been saving pennies, and keeping my eyes open for equipment to get started playing/performing again, it just seems to have come all at once! I have been working all summer for extra pay, and It didn't last long! Your right, this Viking sailor best slow down before he looses his "drakkar"! All things considered, I went from a scratch,to have picked up basically all the equipment I "need" to get started (plus a Balladeer) for under $800.00. I came clean with the wife on my latest purchase.....Sounds like Norseman will be laying carpet all this August, and fido will have a new roommate for a while!!! Actually she was very understanding(after hitting me three times with a 2x4 that is!). As far as the CD, if I can get things together in time, I'll be happy to send you and Miles a Norseman original! Seriously, sometimes it's tough when you get that lusting for a certain guitar in your soul to be fiscally responsible. I think we all can identify with you. There's a Preacher Deluxe 12 string on ebay right now that I hope goes up to about $5-600 cause I can't think about buying it then, as opposed to if it's at $400 where I'll have to tell myself that I won't think about buying it.

Joined: May 2002 Posts: 1026 Location: Back in the Valley of the Sun Mesa Az. | You know, I do exaggerate. I have been looking for an elec/acoustical Ovation, since my Legend is strictly acoustical, so the thought of buying a guitar was not that far fetched. What gets me, is I have researched several guitars, passed on some, bid on others. I had set a price range of up to 315.00, but have to say, anything I really liked went well over that. So my sights were set on CS257's. With the recent sale at Mars selling Black only CS257's for 299.00, I thought I could pick up a great deal on one. The funny thing is, three and four year old CS257's with dings and nicks and most w/o cases have consistantly sold for over 300.00! Go figure! Thus my suprise, when after several days looking at acoustical amps, I just glanced over to the Ovations, and found this Balladeer with just over a minute left. This is were the brain fart started. Rather than wait for another guitar I could research, I decided to make a bid. It was at 260.00, and I figured the bidder probably went 275.00, and if he seriously wanted the guitar, probably 300.00. I bid 276.00 with seconds left, and win the thing. All in all, I don't think I did too bad (I don't know if you checked out the link), but the bad part of that statement is "I don't know" Bad move. The post said excellent condition, just like new...we'll see. I also exaggerate my wife's reaction (just for fun/effect). She actually is excited about my renewed interest in music, and getting this thing going. She (working as my assistant for the summer) was with me and was consulted before I bid! She gave me the "whatever you think dear" and THEN hit me with a 2x4 when I actually did it(there I go exaggerating again!). To make a long story a little longer, I probably got a better sounding guitar, than if I would have picked up a CS257 (love those deep bowl!), just took a funny road getting there! Norse(apologize for the long post)man1 p.s. I checked the serial number, it's a 1995 model, not a 1997 (and not a good omen). [ July 24, 2002: Message edited by: Norseman1 ]

If the guitar is what was advertised, you added just what you subconsciously wanted to your budding collection. A whole new electric dimension. You bought an Ovation, so you have some confidence that the quality is there, isn't that what we do here? If it was a dog, somebody here would have warned us about it. I predict you will be happy with what you bought. Paul I'm restraining my fingers from going on Ebay, a 12 string solid body is what I want, and a Preacher would be great. I noticed you didn't give a link. Bogarting it? Well, I'm restraining myself, but if my unconscious takes over. (maybe just look at it, that would be OK, nothing wrong with looking at it, Yessss, there you are, my pretty, shining on the screen, making me want to do things to you, like bid on you, yesss, you would love that, me bidding on you, my pretty, but the bad people won't let me have you, they don't know how lonely you are, they just want my pretty to be lonely out there and be bid on by the bad people, yessss) My control has returned, I'll never get my 12 string. The guitar looks like it's in nice shape, It may not have the epaulets/sound holes that were attracting you, but you'll have a good, solid USA-made acoustic/electric, AND a HSC (so you really only paid $200 for the guitar). Last night I had some time to kill, so I went to Guitar Center and paid a "conjugal visit" to the black, shallow bowl Legend 12-string ($1099) that I'm in LURVE with. After our "session", I put it back in the rack and picked up a Celebrity 12-string ($609). Night and Day. You did good.

As you can tell, I anquish over these type of decisions, just usually do it BEFORE I pull the trigger! I do feel good about the money, I just don't know what I could touch for that jinga that has such a rep. and pretty resonance. Thanks for the support on getting "started" all over again Cliff, it is difficult/spendy! And thanks Al for "not touching that one", although if the shoe were on the other foot, I don't know I would have showed your restraint!! I have one in the beautiful transparent blue finish!! How close are you to Minneapolis?? I can save you the shipping AND let you try before you buy :D By the way, I saw the pics of the guitar you won, I don't think you have anything to regret. I must say that after reading your initial post, I was sweating vicariously for you, at the prospect of confronting my wife, if I were in your shoes!! Lord knows I've almost done that on more than one occasion... must be something in the lattitide??? Yours in the land of frozen tundra, Rich
