Martin must have seen Ovation's Heroin Diarys guitar and figured they were missing out on something.

Makes me hate Martin more than I allready do!
People talk about "Taylor" snobbery, which is more true then I care to admit as an owner of one. But the same can be said about a lot of Martin owners, not all, just a lot.
UGLY Guitar!

They're only making 200 of them.
I bet it's not because they wanted to make it some sort of collector thing but more of something like Christopher Martin coming down to the production floor and saying, "WAIT! STOP! That's enough of that!!!"

They regularly produce this limited run painted top drek. Someone must be buying them. Not me. By the way ...
Is the background color mauve?

Looks like Taylor is the only one who doesn't have to resort to rediculous graphic schemes to make their guitars totally unappealing ...

I totally would understand Dean or Ibanez (or even Ovation) doing something like this, but it seems un-Martinish. I like the Felix the Cat guitars, at least they belong in the same era as a Martin. I cannot imagine anyone wanting one of these.

Wallhangers. Martin subscribes to the P.T. Barnum theory of consumerism. And they make lots of money.

I don't know if they sold it or sent it back.

I can't stop looking at the Hippy Styled Martin!

That goffy looking crossed bones thing has got to be the worst idea I have ever seen. 200, I'll bet they make about a dozen. Should call it the DUMB X, someday 80 years from now they will be a collectors dream.
That Hippy guitar is something I'd never buy but it is really funny and somehow I find it mesmerizing ....well I like looking at it, I would not like owning it me thinks.

I love my Martins, and am not a snob about it. I love my Ovations too. That's why I keep coming back to them. Martin really has gone over the top with these "special" guitars they have been making. They seem to theme a guitar after every possible thing on the planet. I sometimes wonder if they have mandatory drug testing there.

Is it that some Martin owners are snobs or do some Ovation owners have a persecution complex? Maybe a little of both?

I own both, I like both. They are completely different animals.

Of COURSE some martin owners are snobs. And some ovation owners, and some gibson owners, etc.

SNOB is just another word for FAN. This is the Ovation Snob Club. We believe our guitars are superior to others and therefor we are superior for being fans of them. The folks on the Martin, Collings or Takamine boards are no different.

I think the members here are a little different as we seem to be more tolerant to other brands. If you venture to another site (that will remain un-named) and mention Ovations, you will usually be abruptly cut off. (right Patch?) I know quite a few people here own different persuasions of the stringed animals, and they are all accepted here. We rejoice together when a member gets a new guitar, regardless of the brand. That's what I love about this place!! We're just GUITAR SNOBS. Hell, they even let a drummer or two in now and then. ;)

I could do without the drummers. Maybe it's because my daughter is living with one, at least until he goes to jail.
The other night I stopped by GC on the way home and there was the typical long haired fat kid smoking out in front of the store. I asked him what was going on inside and he told me it was the drum competition. I turned around and walked off as he pleaded that it wasn't too loud and I should go in. I don't suppose he ever thought someone might want to go to a guitar center and be able to hear a guitar.

Painted guitars are a POS unless you paint it yourself to say something about you.
And it's almost certainly still a POS.
These guitars say nothing about Ovation or Martin - they say everything about the people who buy them.

I am confused about "Who" it is, actually, that would buy something like this. Certainly not your typical Martin guitar fan would want it. The Metal guitarists have little use for acoustics to begin with, and I think most of the Kids who listen to this music would think this guitar is lame anyway. Can someone tell me what their target is for sales of this Fugly thing. Hey I was never a fan of the Lizard Skin Ovations or even the flame tops but at least they have an across the board detail painted feature that is a statement in general and they actually are well designed and have an appeal to differnt ages and styles. just not my taste so who cares. This thing is a complete waste of a very nice acoustic guitar.

Nub is the painter whose shop, "Nub Graphics" paints the Motorcycles for Orange County Choopers, which were made famous on "American Choppers"...

not my thing; but it looks much better than Heroin Diaries IMHO...
