Well I was watching the latest contribed reality show Survivor last night. I noticed in a previous show that one of the contestants brought a guitar. It was in a gig bag so I could not see what it was. Last night there was some film of him playing it and YES it is an ovation. It is a super shallow elite (or the celebrity equivalent) I was not real impressed with the guy's playing BUT I often thought that if I was on that show and brought a guitar to some remote island what better guitar to bring than an Ovation?

Now if I was an as we in the industry term a "marketing puke" I would be contacting this guy and puting out an ad compaign about Ovation being the true desert island guitar etc. Hey Rick Hall you know my address use my idea and forward my pay check!!!!!!

OOPS
Well after doing some initial detective work I found this out about this guy <<<''Survivor'' castaway has a soft-porn resume. Used car dealer Brian Heidik, a.k.a. Dave Roth, is a familiar, um, face on Playboy Channel and Cinemax skin flicks>>
apparently this guy has appeared in some soft porn flicks.
I am not exactly sure if it will fit in with the image Ovation wants to put out to the public but all I can think about is how much fun the Namm shows will be if he brings some of his
"actress girlfriends"

So....

...I'm watching "The Mind of the Married Man" on HBO the other night and there was a part where the main character's buddy at work turned him on to a website called "www.i'llshoveanythingupmya**.com".

Now one of the items was a guitar, and I swear if you look close enough........

Just kidding, Al.

y'know, the thing that uh,..."disturbs" me most about this is that Al can recognize this guy's uh,..."face" on all these cheesy, skin flicks.

Perhaps there's an "All-Star Skeleton Band" in that closet playing all those Ovations?

I did not recognize him. I found out about the porn connection when I did some research on him. i was thinking it might be cool to involve the guy in the OFC get him to submit a tune for the CD advertise it as having a tune by this survivor etc etc etc. My only motivation was marketing and strategy.
I still think that Ovation should take advantage of this connection with the show. Millions of people watch the show including myself and it is a great advertising angle IMHO

hmmm....I smell:
"Limited Edition "Survivor" Signature" model.

Maybe something with an exotic (but durable) top, a nifty "tribal" motif rosette, an airbrushed bowl that mimics a sea turtle's shell, and some funky "tiki" tuners. A "ParrotHead's Dream.

Hell, I'D buy one!!

burnett seems to license the survivor logo for a whole pile of poop. I bet they would jump at a "survivor" guitar or even better yet present one to him on TV with the survivor logo etc.
Dammit I missed my calling. I should have been a marketing puke.

Moody it was your wife's girlfriend that tipped me off .....opps I think I shouldn't have mentioned that....oh welll....

I don't think a past skin-flick connection would hurt at all. Talk is talk, and as long as someone is saying Ovation, that's all that counts. Didn't Travolta do some soft-porn back in the day? He seemed to survive. Anyway, a "Survivor" model would be a great. I picked up that Guitar Player mag with the GP-1 on the cover and was thinking how long it's been since I saw an Ovation on the cover of something. Would be nice to see an Ovation on the front of TV Guide, Newsweek, People etc... Would also be nice to get a submission for the CD too.

I say play up the whole porn thing and Ovation:

-"The Survivor Series Ovation- are you virile enough to play an O?"

Or maybe,

-"Forget Viagra, strap on an Ovation!"

It would have to be a series of course, commemorating each new location of the show...
(this thread is getting ugly, ain't it? LOL)

"if you're a hand dipped cigar man you are going to love this new survivor model from ovation" now there is an ad that will get some attention.

Guys I hope you realize that if we do get the guy to join and submit something to the CD your comments are on here for him to read.
Let's focus please. We all find 20+ year old instances of people playing ovations. Well here is a contemporary one. If Ovation does not capitalize on it IMHO they will be foolish. If they don't book this guy to sign autographs at the next namm show in Anaheim they would miss a big opportunity IMHO. You can pay people to endorse a guitar but here is an unsolicited endorsement.
focus please.

I will be going up to CT tomorrow to enjoy the Hamer guitar fan club activities. If someone out there gets a chance watch survivor and see if they get this guitar out again and see if you can ID it. any info would be appreciated. I am working on getting in contact with this guy.

Okay Al, he won! . . . .

. . . Ovation now has about 14 minutes/53 seconds to sign him up before his "fame" runs out.

Cliff you are right LOL
but I seriously would love to have a track from him on the OFC cd and If Ovation does not contact him for some sort of endorsement they are missing the boat.
