Dan: do the different specimens have different signature tone? Obviously the nylon, 12, and bass are different. But do you notice differences between the EA68's? I knew a guy who claimed he could tell the difference blindfolded between a plain EA68, the Tamo Ash top, and the Sycamore. I was ... skeptical.

I like Vipers, too, but Dan is in a league of his own. I looked for about a year for an orange flame 12 stringer to match the 6, but never saw one. Never even saw a 12 for that matter, so I tossed in the towel and just ordered a custom model through Al. It is the only 12 string I use these days.

Joined: February 2007 Posts: 302 Location: Nashville, TN | Questions answered: The Peaveys are USA electric solid bodies..similar to the VAN Halen Wolfgangs..one is like a tele/strat 3 pickup with a Kahler..the other has 2 humbuckers that are switchable individually to single coil & instead of a pickup switch..there a 'pan' pot to balance between the 2..this guitar has a Floyd Rose which is my favorite 'whammy' all though they can be a pain..I think they sound the best....About the Vipers...they all sound different to me..the Orange & Blue ones have a tendency to feedback easier..the original natural & Black one sound more similar..I use those the most on my 'solo' gigs..you can hear them in action with the loopers & TC Helicon VoiceLive on my booking page: www.DanSchaferMusic.com The history of the Viper love affair is this..I wanted a Gibson SST for a Shania gig coming up the next weekend..they were out of them. (was doing some NAMM shows & video stuff for Epiphone, one of their sister companies)..I ran into Micheal Vincent Ovation artist rep somewhere & he told me about the Vipers, this was 95? And he told me where I could check some out..I wasn't crazy about the ones I saw & told him if another one came up that he thought I might like to lemme know. The next morning there was a box on my doorstep from Hartford, CT with my first natural Viper inside..I was desperate for the Shania gig coming up & I liked the Viper OK..anyway, the gig got cancelled & I asked him if I should send it back & he said to just use it on the next TV gig I did with her..well that was the next gig...Lifetimes now cancelled Biggers & Summers Show...anyway, I came to really fall in love with that guitar & just kept getting others & other..but they do sound different to my ears...Thanx OFC Guys for asking! BTW my distain for Fenders was due to their coolness to me over the years (maybe it's my breath)..even though I did a few sucessful b bender instructional videos using their guitars they've always 'iced' me...All the other companies listed above have been gracious in some way & helped me find good instruments to do the best work I can do..whew! long winded :-(
