It got me thinking, what is the favorite collector series guitars of the different members of the fan club? If you have a favorite collectors series guitar, please tell me why it is your favorite...Paul Hebert

This was a really radical departure for Ovation that in hind sight didn't seem to go over too well with the majority of guitar buyers. Maybe that's why I like it - because most others don't. But hat's off to Ovation for going out on a limb and taking a chance. Sometimes it works out, sometimes it does not. In general I'm a little critical of Ovations collectors strategy. Collectors guitars don't show up like clockwork every 12 months, nor does simply offering a new color finish or some other feature constitute collectability. Granted some of the collectors versions over the years were introductions of features or finishes that later made their way into the main line. And these truely were unique and should be considered collectors versions. But sadly other years seemed to just be a last minute rush job to get something out on time and call it a "collector". And to offer a Celebrity version and call it a collector? Come on, guys. So for various reasons I would vote for the 97 Parlor. Especially I would like to find one of the less common nylon stringed versions. Does anyone here know how many of them were nylons? Does anyone here have a nylon one? For sale? Dave

It is the deep throated copy of the Ovation that started it all, the one that came close to matching the Martin discussed in other posts. The copy of the early models that had that acoustic sound nailed as W-2 has described, but gave way to manufacturing "improvements" that muted the sound.

One of the better sounding ovation guitars I have played. Very "natural" look with a thin satin finish and somewhat understated.

Please say yes because i hate the 83 collectors ..The 93 was probably the best sounding overall Ovation collectors guitar i have ever played..But i just love the 87 as my all time number one collectors. It has the total package..

Absolutely stunning to look at. Simple furnishings, but very good sound from the mid-bowl and mahogany-sounding top. XLR out and Optima is a nice feature. I'd buy an '82 if I can find a decent price on a good one. Anyone got one in a basement somewhere?

I think I have him down to what I want to pay. This is a new guitar that they lost years ago in the store room. They are not even Ovation dealers anymore. Keep your asses out of the Nashville guitar shops...this one is mine. -Shaft

Pictures don't always do justice to the item being photographed. I think my 88 is quite nice, a pretty color, and a neat departure from the "Norm". But, to each his own.

I have received a lot of compliemnts from both players and non-players. The pewter finish has a metalic hue and it looks great on stage. Just me and my Adamas!

I'm going back to my 12 string now :) Dave p.s.: thanks to Moody who dropped me the link to the OFC.. glad to know there are other Ovation sickos out there somewhere

Joined: July 2003 Posts: 1 Location: nashville | hey, i'm new to this site, but not to ovation. bought my first one in 1978, a stereo legend. have had my 1997 collectors edition for four years, and absolutely love it. i've played with friends that have taylors and martins and i can hold my own soundwise without having to plug it up. someone asked about nylon strings and i have used them on my 97 on occasion. just make sure they have the round ends like steel and it's good to go. thanks for a good place to share about ovations. being in nashville, it's all about takamines & gibsons which are not my thing. bc

Did you have trouble with the nut? My guess is that the thicker nylon strings (G-B-E) would not sit properly in the slots. Also, if I'm not mistaken the intonation setup on the individual saddles would also be off, especially on the treble strings. Did you notice any problems? Also curious if the pickup system worked OK. I might be tempted to try this conversion myself. Dave

Just noticed it as I was contemplating Ovation's foray into advanced technology, would those two go together? I've always wanted one of those rotary engine sports cars. I think that is why I like Ovations. Bailey

Specialized in the rotary motors and modifications at my own shop. I guess I do like the unique/ high tech/ fun stuff. Changed careers 5 years ago but still playing guitar :) Dave
