Clearly it is not possible, especially since there's a new Queens fan is looking for info about a guitar. Why that's the tell-tale sign right there. Yep, the GP is a total dog that only someone like Josh could make popular. God, I'm such an asshole for assuming the GP could actually be a quality instrument worth spending money on. Anyone wanna buy my GP's for a couple of hundred bucks? If not I'll just hang on to 'em and use for fire wood once it gets cold agin. I've seen the error of my ways. P.S. Josh's last name is Homme - not Holmes.

What seems to be under debate is how much money. The early Ovation electrics had quite a few "big name" users in their day, that did absolutely zip for their popularity. Which proves nothing except how fickle & unpredictable the vintage guitar market actually is.

Sorry I did not report his last name accurately I was going by my feeble memory. I know you are a big fan and there is nothing wrong with that, BUT a large part of the appeal and desireability of the guitar is the Josh connection. For example, do a search on bluebird. It was guitar made for Glen Campbell only. There are only about 12 of them out there, the guitar was totally made in the USA and has some innovative features. It should be worth a ton of cash but is only desireable to the Glen Campbell fans. There is nothing wrong with that. Artist endorsements sell guitars. I know that Josh is from the ilk that shun commmercialism in their music recordings etc but let's face it without him the guitar would be back to where they used to be at $250 a throw. Now there are a ton of great guitars out there for that kind of money and they become worth more because of an artist connection. the univox hi flyer is an example before Kurt if I got 150 out of one I was happy now they consistently sell for 300+ same goes with the mustang which kurt single handedly raised the price of. If you don't want to believe the artist connection has an effect sorry but it does. The only thing I would request is that you clean up your language when posting on the board. You can post any opinion you like and continue to attack me that seems to be the main sport of the message boards.

You all just seem to have no sense of irony, sarcasm, or lately humor. And Al I have personally seen a Bluebird go for a huge amount of money a few years ago on e-bay. Close to $2,000. So I don't follow your argument. Do you guys not follow what I'm saying? I have said and will say again that Josh's use of the GP has made it rise to an all time high, but in conversations that I have had with other ovation collectors I've been told that GP's have gone for a fair amount of money prior to QOTSA being in the limelight. Don't agree with me fine, but don't tell me I'm an idiot for saying an Ovation guitar is worth a lot of money (that's for my good buddy Scott). Al I'm also a little unclear on your Kurt Cobain / Univox argument. I think I get it, but is seems really flimsy. Kurt was a much higher profile player than Josh and because he used a Univox the price went from $150 to $300. Okay, but you're also saying that Josh has made a $250 (your price) guitar worth $2,000? That's a huge leap compared to Kurt. I think Paul said it better with how it's more about "how fickle & unpredictable the vintage guitar market actually is". And Al I wasn't attacking you, I'm just stating my opinion so don't get all martyr on me. I think everyone on this board (including myself) needs to lighten the f#©k up. Isn't this suppose to be fun?

The point with Kurt is to just show you that an artist an effect a price. This is something you don't seem to want to accept. YES the guitar is cool on its own. did you ever play a GS? they are very cool also. I would rather have a hy flyer than the GS since they will sell. Are they both the same quality guitar? NO the GS is way better it is only supply and demand.

Joined: December 2001 Posts: 7236 Location: The Great Pacific Northwest | The first GP's I saw were about 4-5 years ago (I checked my email). They were $695 and $795 and I did not buy them. Although QOTSA was around then, they didn't really hit it until about 2000. I'm glad the price is up, but more importantly I'm happy to see Ovation electrics being recognized in general, even if it's a small crowd, people are finding out about them. Paul said it the best by pointing out how "fickle & unpredictable" the market is. What's really nice is that once a guitar reaches a certain price in it's second coming, it takes a long time to fall again if ever. Collectors will always and forevermore have the sales pitch that these guitars came out in the 80's at about $600 bucks and in 2003 were around $2000. They aren't going to get any less rare, so I suspect in 2010 they will still be nearly $2000 even if Josh never records another album. I don't know of any item that appreciates that much, then depreciates again. I could be wrong, but I can't think of any.

Once again, not only do I accept, I know it. An artist not effecting a price has never been my P.O.V. I've said that over and over again. Now I'll even give a good example - the Les Paul Silverburst. People hated that guitar til Adam Jones played one. Now there're so in demand Gibson did a reissue. I'm not asking much here, just that of you disagree with me please make sure you're clear on what you're disagreeing with.

An argument is a connected series of statements intended to establish a proposition. A: No it isn't. M: Yes it is! It's not just contradiction. Joined: May 2002 Posts: 114 Location: NoHo, CA | Al you're pulling that last quote out of context. If you really want to go back and re-read what I've posted, here's one of the 1st things I said before this became a school yard quibble: "Right now I would say that they are at an all time high because of the Queens exposure, but people paid a large amount for them well before that. That is if the seller knew what he was selling. Previously a lot of buyers and sellers weren't aware of the rareness of the guitar and some people (like me) got to reap the benefits." And that's not clear? So YET AGAIN let me state what my point of view has been all along. 1) The GP is a very cool, well made guitar. 2) From what I have heard pre-Queens success the GP sold for more than certain people here have claimed (the $250-$400 range). 3) The close to if not over $2,000 mark for the guitar is due to Josh Homme becoming better known and his association with the guitar. I'm sure I'll need to repeat this later or someone like Al or Scott will pull it out of context.

How dare you accuse a brit, we who invented the concept in the first place, of having no sense of inryo. Cliff, give the fuck up on misquoting the Python "Argument Sketch" or I'll start misquoting Seinfeld or Friends or some other lame colonial bullshit. Your're all full of shit, especially Al.
