I've never seen such a pronounced grain pattern in a spruce top as my 1537 has. I tried to photograph the top and it almost looks like maple in some places. Also, it has these funny swirls in it. Take a look in the gallery at my 1537. You can see what I mean if you look at the top below the bottom knob (it is more diagnal). Bear claw perhaps? Bradley

It is also known as a "2 knobber" for the volume and tone control knobs. They work great. If you feel the need for more control, buy an external eq box. I wouldn't mess with the preamp. By the way, the Elite that started this thread is the 81st one built.

Someone got a great deal, but if this is indicataive of market perception, then we're all a bunch of fuckwits & all the Taylor & Martin owners and the rest of the "handbuilt" snobs are laughing their dicks off at us.

If I were the buyer, I'd be nervous if someone was that eager to end the auction and take a quick buck. Happended with me on the #6759 CL 12-str - bid on it even though I fully believed it would go above $900. Seller closed it 2 or 3 days early and sold to me for $650. I was going to back out at $700. What can I say? He played it on the Elton John 2000 tour and probably didn't pay for it. That's why I always try to have the high bid hanging out there if it is below or near what I ultimately feel I would be comfortable paying. Never know the motivation or knowledge of the seller.

Maybe I should put a bid in for $500 and see if I get lucky. Still, I can't figure out why the seller didn't just let it ride. I'm thinking about all the times I've been out bid at the last moment. Why end it early and just give the guitar away? Oh Well, Bradley

I don't see the problem Paul. We can buy excellent guitars that look great, sound great & play great for a reasonable amount of money. I think that is good. Those Martin/Taylor people are probably over on BBS's somewhere lamenting the fact that they would like to buy such & such guitar but they don't have the two grand or whatever they'd have to shell out for a really nice used one. Hell, we can buy four or five really nice used Ovations for two grand! What's the problem? :) /\/\/

Joined: July 2003 Posts: 1922 Location: Canton (Detroit), MI | Bradley, in answer to your question("Why end it early and give the guitar away"): 1) The seller is truly desperate for quick money, like he has outstanding bills to pay, or.... 2) He really doesn't have the guitar and is looking for a quick fleece, (you can do this several times quickly before eBay bans you, they are biased towards sellers in how they treat each party in a transaction) or.... 3) He is clueless about the true value of the guitar, and just wants some quick money.... For the buyer's sake, I hope it's numbers 1 or 3. I have a close friend who got fleeced by a scam artist selling out-of-print CDs that bring $50-$100. He had a solid feedback rating of around 80, and he threw it away to scam about 10-15 people before eBay caught up with him. This is why I may never buy a guitar on eBay unless the guitar looks really solid and the seller has absolutely solid feedback, or is an established online shop like OVG.
