The following is posted from the Ovation web pages, under Fair-Use doctrine. "... Is my warranty transferable? No, all Kaman Music warranty policies are valid only to the original purchaser with a warranty card on file or a copy of the original sales receipt as proof of purchase. What does a Limited Lifetime Warranty Policy really mean? Our Limited Lifetime warranty policy means that for the first 2 years you own the product, Kaman Music will cover all parts and labor for anything deemed defective. After that initial 2 year period, Kaman will cover the parts for anything deemed defective as long as you own the product, but now the consumer is responsible for any labor charges incurred in the repair. Please Note: All electronics, machine heads and strings are not covered under warranty. " I'm gonna play Devil's advocate here for a moment. It seens the lifetime warranty does indeed have limits - on the labor portion at least. If push got to shove - I mean the labor.. jeeze. The labor to reset a neck or replace a top that goes nuts is damned expensive, while the part (no part in a neck reset, and only a top in the top replace) is fairly small in comparison to the price of the guitar or the labor portion of the repair. I'm not sure what Ovations rules are there, considering they would also want to refinish or at least touch up things cosmetically too. Labor can be really high. I'm not suggestion this as a possibility for Ovation, but some companies do cover a product for a finite time period regardless of who owns it, based on the ship date or original sale date (depends on the product). Few companies offer unlimited lifetime warranty service for a product regardless of the ownership status. I suppose some sort of "combination" could be do-able, not that Ovation needs to do it. Something like "we'll cover it for X amount of time, regardless of who owns it, but for the lifetime of the original purchaser." The person who said warranties = increased selling price hit it on the head. Ovation, or any company, brings itself and its product to market with terms set accoring to where the company feels it will compete the best in the market. In Ovations case, those terms are fully stated, and I see little ambiguity with them (in fact no ambiguity at all). And (nearly) finally... "caveat emptor". Do not buy something totally unaware of what it is. Do not buy something thing that you'll strongarm the manufacturer into bending its stated policies. Lastly (yay!) Its really really poor form to bitch about those policies knowing you went into a deal for a product that had "issues". To my way of thinking, you're trying to pass the blame for your own stupidity onto the manufacturer. Pat if you like the guitar, get it fixed. If not either quit griping, or liquidate it. | ||

I personally have been so pleased and comfortable with both their product and customer service, that I now have only Ovations, and plan to add more. Not just because I like round backs, but because I know I can count on the company to help me with any problem I might encounter. They have a good customer, and advocate with me, because of it. Irregardless of what the paper work say's, I always call first (no matter the company) to see if what I have might be an exception (or will be covered) to the written stuff. I ask respectfully and politely, and almost always, receive the same. The great people at Ovation, I can honestly say have treated me better than 99% of any other company out there.... and I'll be back! Long live Ovation! If you are a good negotiator you might be able to get a 20/20 warrentee from where you bought the guitar used. Twenty seconds or twenty feet out the door, whichever comes first. | ||

"If it's not good, the original owner has two years to find it and have us fix it...after that, we'll provide the parts for a fix for the original owner, if he'll pay for us to install them". If the original owner doesn't find it within two years, is it really something that MATTERS(and is their fault)???? I doubt it. Just in case one of my guitars were to be stolen, I would hate for them to have a receipt to go with it. I do find it helpful to keep the receipt from the guitar's last set up in the pick compatment so that I can keep track of what was done to each guitar and when. I also have a list of all of the serial numbers and pictures for the insurance company. | ||

Also let me tell you that nobody is trying to pass the blame onto the manufacturer, THEY ALREADY GOT THE SHAME OF HAVING ON THE STREET A TOP OF THE LINE PRODUCT WITH A STAMP SAYING “DEFECTIVE PRODUCT MADE IN OVATION” You said “ Pat if you like the guitar, get it fixed. If not either quit griping, or liquidate it.” Did you say griping?? Did you say liquidate and pass to somebody else the problem?? Do you have any other idea?? You seem to have a strong opinion about a policy, and a concern about your guitar. What do you want? Your opinion is fine. So far no one here agrees with you, but that's ok, we don't have to. But you just keep going on and on and on... and there is nothing anyone here can do any, but obviously you have an audience of folks that are listening. So please, in as clear and consise as you can be, let us know what you would like to see happen, or what you want. It may seem obvious to you, but so far, do one here "gets it." | ||

This was the Email I’ve sent to OVATION customer support ______________________ I'm the owner of an ADAMAS SN 16348 I bought this guitar used and as far as I know the "Limited Life Warranty" might not be applicable to my guitar. The guitar presents the following flaw The pictures are self explanatory, I consider this is an evident factory made defect. After having a bitter arguing at www.ovationfanclub.com the most common advise I've got was to contact you guys. I want to be honest, I'm not happy at all with the warranty protecting just the first owner; in a case like this I consider the factory responsibility should not expire when the guitar is sold. I'd like to have solved this problem, Please let me know my alternatives. Best Regards Pat Masotta ______________________ and this was the lovely OVATION answer. ______________________ “Contact Customer Service at 860-379-7575 with the model and serial numbers from your guitar for a return authorization so the guitar can be evaluated at the factory repair shop.
