I usually have at least one Ovation in my office, and I will be working on tunes this afternoon in preparation for band rehearsal ... which is also part of my job. It reminds me of a day in Texas when I was calling on one of my parishioners. He owned a business called Bomber Bait and was headed out of his office with several well equipped fishing rods and a large carton of lures. I said that I wished I had a job that allowed me to take off in the middle of the day and fish. His reply was, "Paul, this IS my job." We all have our crosses to bear.

I carry my lunch every day, just so I can keep pace. I write so much it interferes with my playing stamina with my O's. Something is going to give, real soon. I've been to hand therapy once already. This puritan work ethic fiasco is a real ballbuster. I suppose it supports my Lab & Newfie in the manner to which they have become accustomed......

Wood Man, won't be seeing Old Mo for another 6 weeks but when I do I'll pass on your regards. I just picked up std bd #148 yesterday. It needs a bit of set up but is overall in pretty good shape. It's really got the soouuuund..

I'm lucky in that I have a job working alone in an office in DT Chicago, 12-8am, doing support for a global trading network. As long as the phone isn't ringing, I get to do pretty much nada. And I have nights/mornings where the phone never rings...

And with the amount of guitars in his office, even if that is "almost all" of them, he probably still has 5-10 more at home. My office (and my bank balance) are much smaller, but I still have guitars scattered around. And while I'm in CT this week, my wife is getting new flooring put in upstairs. In this great world of give and take, that translates into one or two new guitars!

Paul - When I was in my early 20's I gaged $20 increments in cases of beer or high octane fill-ups. That became packages of Pampers Kimbies! Now I am starting to see equivilents of what I could get for guitar accessories! I now relate a short vacation to the price of a new LX. :(

"I can just play four gigs and buy that" . . . if it's coming from the proceeds of what you enjoy doing in the first place, it makes it a little less painful.

The floor leveler and tile I used in my bathroom remodel was that 1537 I've always wanted, the faucets/sink/tub surround and toilet would have got me that digital recorder. I refinanced my home last March, and had a nest-egg of about $20,000.00. I dedicated the money to upgrades BADLY needed. A new roof/new furnace/new appliances/new paint/ remodel bathroom/new carpeting/dental work for my daughter, and one year later, that nest egg is but a distant memory. Dreamed of countless Ebay beauties, Pawnshop treasures, music store temptations and OFC board fantasies...and with money in the bank to pull the trigger(sorta)! Talk about discipline  But at the end of the day (O.K....year) all is good. My home is leakproof and warm, my daughter can smile again, my wife is estatic :D :p ;)  , and I still ended up with a beautiful 81 Pacemaker via Trboy...the deepbowl USA Ovation (w/electronics ta-boot) I've been looking for soooo long. God is good! As far as having guitars at work. I bought two acoustic Johnson guitars (hiss/boo I know, but I was fortunate to get the O.K. on these cheaper guitars)with my school budget, and I bought a Reynolds electric, with an old beat up Crate15 amp from a local pawnshop (with my own money), and some bamboo flutes at a flea market, so that my students can have guitars/music available to them. As a treat, I will "feature" a particular Ovation for a week or so, so the kids can get a feel for a quality instrument as well. I hold my breath when I hand them my babies, but so far so good. I'm always amazed at the wide-eyed responses they give to my O's, and wonder why it doesn't carry over once they leave here. I guess the power of conformity is alive and well in the music world as with the rest of society(if it aint a Taylor or Matrin... it aint nothin). If they would only follow their instincts, not what's trendy. Norse(sorry for the novel...too much coffee)man1

Beware the distractions of this board! And yet, I find this gathering has a calming and theraputic part of my life. As sometimes a little GAS aquisition does slip through - my thanks to Willard for the Pacemaker 12 I didn't see coming until it hit me! All tuned up and playing sweet. The action is great - I just have to educate my fingers to accomodate more strings. I applaud your sharing instruments with your class! Talk to some Dealers in your area and see if they will host a "featured" instrument once in a while! I feel that as long as I am sharing my gifts and encouraging others God will provide - already have an Elite LX and a good'ol 12 string now! I'll just have to dream about the Longneck Baritone 12 and an office full of guitars. Did I mention that my garage is now clean!

You'd be compensated, however, by the joy of teaching me all you know. VeeKaChu - If you need a personal assistant I make great coffee and I can do the rythym AND Lead to "Wish You Were Here"! After my first night on the job with the Yammy, my fingers are killing me. Can anyone here tell me where's a good place to get a lefty nut for this beast? The action is high and the strings are heavy (by design, as I'm going to beat my right hand into submission with this "practice" git) but because it's LH on an RH nut the low E is riding even higher than it should. I have a hell of a time getting any decent tone at all, just a lot of muffled buzz... Thanks in advance for any advice!

I just hope the rest of your O's don't develop a green hue as mine have, as they sit gathering dust the next few weeks while your 12 gets all the attention! Norse(just got back from Wal-Mart, dropped some pics off to be put on CD, so I can download an updated gallery of Norseman's O's...stay tuned)man1

I now know there is a lot more than that! :D I will soon be able to open spinach cans with my left hand as well. It is a beautiful guitar. I think deep down my wife might even like it.
