What current artist do you think would generate the biggest impact if Ovation could get a guitar into their hands? I'm thinking of exposure for the brand across a wide, guitar-buying public.

The first one that came into my mind was Dave Matthews.

I think the question was current artist.

- John Mayer
- Alanas Morrissette (new song out)
- Dave Mathews (new song with Blue Man Group, used to play Ovations when he had to buy his own guitars.. check out the older footage, pre-superstar)
- Evanescence (she's just hot, I don't care if she can play a guitar or not)
- Anastacia think she is already a Hamer endorser
- Sherl Crow (She's a Gibson nut, but I'd still like to see/hear her on an Ovation)
- Kid Rock

I mention Kid Rock, because of the few times I've heard him play an acoustic (video concerts and performances), it's not been the right tool for the job at hand. He would be a prime candidate for Ovation. High stage volume, but still plays an acoustic when he can. It's usually lost in the mix because it's not an Ovation.

The list goes on and on... I don't watch MTV, VH1, or CMT much, but when I do click by, I notice a LOT of guitar players out there and always wonder why they aren't playing Ovations. I'm glad Godsmack is touting Ovations, that's pretty cool, but it's a bit of a niche audience, but still cool.

BB King, Eric Clapton, Mark Knopfler, Leo Kottke perhaps, Phil Keaggy for those so inclined, Les Paul... not that any of them are likely candidates, but they WOULD increase sales significantly.

However, IF Ovation could put a guitar into the hands of Jimi Hendrix, I'm sure that would be it. They'd have it cinched.

I would love to see Phil Keaggy take off on Ovations. He has the perfect blend of acoustic style and electronic wizardry.

Another up and coming to me would be Andrew Peterson. He has mixed Gospel, Bluegrass and Folk with acoustic skill.

McCartney - imagine the back in the USA tour with him playing a custom legend and a uke.
Bruce - what a visual with him on stage flinging around a viper.

Hizzoner, I realize he is still alive, and everyone has their definition of current... but.. from Mr. Mellancamp's own website.

"John currently has no shows scheduled for 2004."

Ovation needs another Glen Campbell. Most likely someone early in their career, maybe in their 20's or early 30's, who will be playing and performing 30 years from now.

Vince Gill played a nylon stringed Viper in his video "You and you alone" a couple of years back (video had a couple of nice close-ups of the Viper!!) He could use a steel string Viper for his guitar driven "up beat" tunes......

My vote goes to the greatest living acoustic guitarist in the WORLD, from the greatest rock band of ALL TIME, Kyle Gass.

(Ok, I'll admit that my tongue is firmly in my cheek, but it's Mr. Gass' virtuosity that propels Tenacious D from being a one-note novelty act to actual inherent respectability- the boy can play!)

What do some of those well known folk (like BB King, Eric Clapton, Mark Knopfler, Leo Kottke, and Phil Keaggy) play most of the time?

BB King plays 'Lucille', his Gibson(s). I have never seen him play an acoustic.

Clapton endorses Fender and Martin.

Knopfler plays a host of things (Fender, Pensa-Suhr,...)

Kottke, last I heard, was endorsing Taylor.

And Phil Keaggy is one of the premier endorsers of Olson guitars (McCartney and James Taylor being among the others). I heard Keaggy and David Wilcox in concert within a few months of each other. Both played Olsons and put those guitars through the most awkward and tortuous alternate tunings I have witnessed including drop tuning the low E to B and lower...

Those Olson guitars maintained beautifully balanced tone and piano like quality that I had not heard before (but I don't get out as much as some of you).

An Olson would be my dream guitar to own and play BUT I could never justify the $5k-$10k it would take to get the one I want and I would fear to take it anywhere.

So, I will stick with my Ovations. Now if we could only convince some of these stars with the same argument.

Sorry for the ramble. The caffeine is kicking in...

Matthews & Mayer would be prime examples I would think. Both get constant exposure.

Damien Rice (who I predict will be BIG this spring/summer) would be a likely "up & commer", but I believe that he's loyal to Lowden's.

Jason Mraz would be another.

If this whole Godsmack "acoustic" EP takes off, it'd be a good deal of exposure.

Puddle of Mudd would be another as well.

...$0.02....

Ron Block and Dan Tyminsky of Union Station. With the popularity of Alison Krauss and Union Station, they could open up the entire Country/Bluegrass genre for Ovations....

What ever happened to Roy Clark and Ovation? I've seen Roy several times... and he's up there playing a roundback (dunno which but it didn't look too fancy)
