I have some info from ovationguitars.com's, "Cracking the Code". Acoustic roundback, artist bowl 5 1/2" deep, Deluxe Baladeer, natural colour. Perhaps made in 1967 (Nov.) to 1968 (July). I would appreciate any feedback about this model; info, value, history, appeal. Thank you.

I'm far from the expert on Os this old, but it sounds like it would be reasonably desirable if in good shape. There are some people here who really like the artist bowl guitars, some don't. The shallowness of the bowl compared to the "normal" deep bowl is supposed to compromise the depth of the sound, which some don't care for. The artist bowl instruments are supposed to be more of a lead guitar than rhythm, from what I have gleaned here. I believe the artist bowl depth came from a request by Glen Campbell, although yours is not a GC signature model(that is the 1127). Roger

Once, I made the mistake of telling him I *wanted* something or other. He held out both hands, palms up and laughed. I asked him, in my naivete, what was so funny. He said, holding up his right hand, 'Crap in this hand,' then, holding up his left hand, 'want in this hand. Which one are you going to fill up first?' I didn't get it for a couple of years.

Roger Yeah, but everybody knows that O's were built for rhythm. Nobody plays an O as lead...therefore, it's undesireable crap that not even Cliff would want. Just to be cordial, I'll offer $125, but the OP will have to pay shipping. Oh, and it should have the OHSC for that kind of dough! :D Just kidding, Ocean. Welcome abored! No, wait, aboard!

It was only made for about three or four years, from approx. 1972-75 (maybe 76). I owned one for a couple of years. All of this is from memory, but I believe it was available as an acoustic only. At any rate, it's a nice guitar... Enjoy! Jeff

I believe that they had the same brace pattern. You'll like it here Ocean, why don't you go back to the sign in sheet and put where you're from? (Or would like to be from) Thanks.

Actually I'm still in Canada. ;-) Hi Jeff, You're not the only one to think my guitar may be from 1972-1976. I thought it was 1967-1968 based on what I read on ovationguitars.com. Hey Bluebird/Wayne, Thanks for the info. The serial number is 080385. Mean anything? The model number is part of an attractive, oval, pewter coloured metal plaque.

It's in mint condition. Hi cwk2(w-2), See above. haha. Also thanks. Hello again Bluebird/Wayne, I'm not near any oceans. I'm in Ontario so I have a long way to travel to get to any oceans but it's worth it. I haven't been to eastern Canada for a long time but it's on my list. I was in Massachusetts last October. Saw the ocean there and had an interesting time in Salem for Halloween. It's like Mardi gras with a Halloween theme. About 30,000 people, maybe half in costumes and 6 public portable toilets.

Sounds like you know about as much about crap as most of us do. "What's it worth?" I think Miles ought to charge a dollar ($1.47 Canadian) every time that question is asked. The more popular dollar value is usually compared to what that model has fetched on Ebay, which is comparable to a Flea Market sale. Hopfully you consider it more valuable that the "market". The thing to ask is is how desirable is the market for your model today. That, would be an interesting one to hear.

I wonder how many of the 2600-odd membership are people who joined to ask "how much is my guitar worth?" and then disappeared. They often don't get much response and then probably think we're unfriendly. But it does get a little old. It just proves few people read the FAQs, unfortunately, because the answer is there. Actually, the answer is "whatever someone will pay you for it", as it is for about anything. :) Roger
