Mahavishnu Orchestra - Birds of Fire and Inner Mounting Flame. Pat Metheny - Still Life Talking. A CD of music by Samuel Barber, which includes probably the saddest piece of music ever written, "Adagio for Strings" (sad as in "brings tears to your eyes", not sad as in "bad"). On my tape deck - hold on to your hats - Sufi devotional music by singer Nusrat Fatah Ali Khan (alright, alright - so I have eclectic tastes; so sue me).

Country Artist - do you know if McLaughlin's Music Spoken Here is available on CD? It's fairly old; I have the album (remember those big plastic discs you got sound out of by dragging some needle-like thingy across them?), but would like to get it on CD.

Alpep - I saw the Soft Machine here in Ottawa back in the 1960's. They were the opening act for the Jimi Hendrix Experience. Back then, the fact that the drummer (Wyatt was his name?) played shirtless created quite a stir. My group (I was a drummer then) incorporated some of the Machine's songs into our sets (I liked "I Did It Again", which we played).

Oh yeah, that Hendrix guy was pretty good, too.

Saving Jane. www.savingjane.com, though there's something wrong with the web site and it's been down for a day. Acoustic player uses Ovations and just bought my SMT from me. In fact, he chose to stay with Ovation (he's been using a pair of imports with Saving Jane and with his other band, Mother Trucker - www.mothertruckerrocks.com- for several years) after trying a very nice 30th Anniversary Taylor with the expression system at the band's CD release party. He didn't like the Taylor plugged in, especially compared to the Ovations.

Nothing wrong with eclectic. If this was asked two days ago, I'd have had to list:

Asha Bhonsle, Lata Mangashkar and Muhammad Rafi! (I was in one of *those* moods). If anyone is looking for a good Bollywood-type movie, I recommend 'The Pushpak' (I think that's it, the name of the big hotel, spelling might be off). My H1B buddies all think I'm weird...I knew about this stuff before I met them. :)

I've got three of their CDs, but that one's not on any of them. They do get my "Spike Jones" award for "Johnny Cash", he don't smoke hash!

Excellent musicians, with a twist.

Huh, I don't have any of their albums, but I do have an mp3 of them doing Gin and Juice. I'll have to dig it out and put it somewhere for you.

these guys are a must hear. tighter than--well we don't say stuff like that anymore here.

a very good friend of mine helps produce and promote them. he always has string cheese paraphenelia and recordings for me every time i am back in new mexico.

i saw string cheese and david byrne at paolo soleri in santa fe on the same ticket once. byrne was playing with a dozen brazilians. the entire crowd went aerobic for close to 5 hours, and the security was joining in on more than just the jumping. reminded me of the 60's. it was like a micro woodstock with no garbage left behind.
