It's a sultry "43" this morning, and wet here, in the real cold country! Leaves are falling like rain when the wind picks up a little. Yep Warm as a frog! I guess I'll have to sit in front of the fireplace and play some music. After I get that pile of wood stacked up. OK he's gone let's all get Nak^%^%d!!!! Ahhh second thought lets not?

I know a somewhat crazy but grounded ex-trucker in NC with a great accent and damn fine sense of humor if you need a ride. Haven't talked to him in a while - have you?

Now the real question, What is it with these $$##$#@$ people who hog the left lane and go 5 over the limit and never move over? Why do they always have the chains around their liscense plates?(you know the ones) Or they are a 20 year old female? I need to get a 6x6x5foot chunck of mahogony on the front of the rover and move these people out of the hammer lane! ^%^%$#$#@$#%^&*&^%$@@$#%$##!!!!!!! OK, I'm better now but it sure does piss me off. Still not a bad run, 17 hours drive time(over two days) and an average of 68.6 mph

Hey, you gotta understand that I love my wife, have for 14 years, and will continue till I assume room temp... but goddammit after all these years she still drives in the FFFFFF left lane as though it were the appropriate lane. The whole idea when she takes the wheel is to let me chill out for awhile and talk about existensial subject matter like the nature of farts and our warped reactions to such a natural event (by the way - I'm not the best farter, she is). It allows me time to try to make a musical connection between John Denver and Ronnie James Dio - and I am convinced that if she would just get our f%%%^^^ van over into the F%%%^^^ right lane, then I would be able to focus on the kind of intellectual epiphonies that Bailey gets to breathe in every morning - about 3am mountain time, I think.

Push those slow travelling 1990 GMC Suburbans in the left lane with flaky paint and the left turn signal flashing right out of the way with a well executed PIT manuever. WHOA, some idiot just knocked me off the highway with a well executed PIT manuever while I was heading for where it was warm in my 1990 GMC Suburban. Scott My epiphanies are arrived at at 1 AM my time 3 AM board time but it is still in the middle of the night. Bailey

If people knew how to "Merge" there's be more people in the "Right" lane(s). *@%! And this: It's got a 4-barrel carb and dual exhausts, 4:11 gears that really get lost - Safety tubes and I'm not scared, The brakes are good and the tires are fair. Hot Rod Lincoln

For cop purposes, the lanes on any road are numbered #1 (far left lane), #2 (lane to the right of #1, etc. I personally believe that the 55 mph speed limit made this country into a nation of bad drivers. When I took driver's ed in 1970, I was taught that you use the #1 lane for passing, then move back over to the right. Keep moving to the right until people aren't passing you on the right. With the advent of the 55 mph speed limit, there was no passing lane and everybody just drove where they wanted to. Nowdays on the highways, you see cars bunched up in the #1 and #2 lanes and people who are passing in the lanes further right.

I believe that it is the fault of those "elder instructors" who teach their kids of driving age the perception that the left lane is the "fast lane", and not the "passing lane". Somehow people feel justified to drive in that lane as long as they are going over the speed limit. Doesn't matter that you need to pass, they will not let you, if they even have a &$%&*! clue that you are even behind them. Meanwhile, it is illegal to not yield the right of way to an overtaking vehicle. No one seemed to tell them that one in driver's ed. My friend was 'racing' another car somewhere in the desert of Arizona ( I think). The cars were neck in neck doing over 100mph when they passed a cop. My friend, in the left lane, got pulled over. He didn't get a speeding ticket, but rather, got pulled over for failure to pass in the left lane. Go figure. Johnny

All it has really done is turn the freeways into a slalom course for sedans and rollover testing grounds for the SUVs. The dolts in the left/fast/#1 lane don't move over because it's safest place to be when 1) knee-steering while 2) having the rear view mirror properly angled in order to put on makeup, shave, or pop zits. On Interstate 5 through the middle of California it is ALWAYS faster to drive in the right lane than in the left, except during those times when it's primarily truckers on the road. Not because the trucks go slower (not usually the case), but because they understand road etiquette. "We were driving up Grapevine Hill Passing cars like they were standing still". My wife and daughter (driving) got nailed a few months back for doing 96 over the Grapevine. The insurance agent was the one driven to drink ... champagne I think. :D

So I'm one of those drivers who refuses to drive any faster that that. However, I do have the common sense to move to the Right Lane.(Around here as in most places slower traffic keeps right.)Now i will switch lanes to pass some ridiculous slowpoke going at least 5 or 10 under the posted speed limit. But it drives me crazy when i try to pass and there are individuals in the left lane moving just about as slow and not pulling over to let people pass thus making traffic back up.Just like Most of you,it's hard to keep my sanity in those cases.
