For handling, sound, feel and appearance both plugged and unplugged it has become my my main axe for pboth playing out and in! And the band played on! John L. Joined: November 2004 Posts: 1374 | My '71 Balladeer reasons. 1) Char bought for me for my birthday. B4 we were married. 2) my first Ovation (lusted after for years.) 3) it is wired passively and sounds spectacular plugged or not. 4)Still major WOW factor. finish is like glass on top and neck but 2 age cracks.(tho the new elite from John catching up fast.) 5) built like a tank..scratch that ROTOR. 6)this is the guitar I always introduce my friends to first. or let friends or neighborhood kids borrow.(again durability, playability, low $ investment). 7) know that if I'm out island hopping in the indian river or lagoons around here and the outboard quits i can always use it to..... Everybody sing!!! 8) and oh yeah.... It brought me here. God Bless all, GLENN 1758(autumn), 1118Bette, 1111Veronica (group muttering under breath) "$%#@%$@!! Veronica!" :p

But, the sound...nothing comes close. Not even the $4500 Taylor with flame rosette and flame inlaid fretboard I played for fifteen minutes tonight (no, it's not mine). Very nice guitar, but it wans't my Elite.

Joined: November 2004 Posts: 1374 | like I said...the elite's coming up fast. really fast....but is a 12 so not as versatile.(not for this beginner) so I guess now I have to find a 6 string version. (that's what I'm telling Char anyway.) don't think she's buying it. Darn gas don't you love it. Glenn 1758(autumn),1118Bette, 1111Veronica

This is an Ovation guitar that you don't have to "Get Plugged in" to appreciate the rich acoustic sound. The folks at the Mothership got a winner with this one. I also love my 1868T, plugged in. Absolutely love playing both necks on various songs. 3. Plugged in it is really very good. Acoustic ok 4. To the point now a single neck guitar doesn't feel right. 5. The body size is really right for a double they made it 3/4 and the width makes up for the reduced length.

It doesn't sound quite as good as the 1612 unplugged but the neck is a little faster & it's a cutaway. With the African Cherry top it's a pretty SOB too. I don't play out often but when I do people notice that guitar. I got compliments on both it's looks & sound (plugged in) at New Years. edit: They liked the sound of the guitar, I'm not so sure they were all that impressed with the way I was playing it :)

I think close to 30 years of hearing it is sorta like being married, everything else looks good but disappoints when you get close and hear it after the makeup comes off and the sun comes up. Then the quality of the faithful Viper calls me home. Muddy Lemon Davis Bailey

Joined: December 2004 Posts: 370 Location: Isle of Man, UK | It has to be my 1995 Celebrity Deluxe cutaway. I can do anything with it - fingerpicking, plectrum strumming, plugged or unplugged. In times of dire need (broken string in a gig) it's always there as a backup, and I have been known to play overdriven rock solo's on it. Not only that, but it was my first O, and led me to many other things. I usually refer to my guitars by "he" or "she" though. Is this wrong (in a creepy way?). Some are most definately female, and some are very male. JB

I think her father now hates me!) :D But, when I need to add the "wowie zowie" factor, I get out the 2001 Redwood... does it every time.

Joined: February 2002 Posts: 1817 Location: Minden, Nebraska | My favorite is a 2000 Custom Legend #1869. It is a killer guitar plugged in, is a perfect guitar to play standing up, and is rich enough sounding to use au naturale in group settings. I have been spoiled by onboard tuners, so it would be hard to go back. Now, if I can just it get back from the factory where it was sent for a crack repair..... My Elite #1868 has been a noble substitute, but I do prefer the sound of the #1869.
