Has anyone bought this guitar yet? More importantly gotten it! Model U681T-5 I believe..........

What do you think of it and I think the pre-amp is the OP-Pro.....is this right?

Future buyer wants to know.......

It is the OP Pro. Almost all of the people who have played this guitar have fallen in love with it. One of the guitar magazines, last year, did a review of the guitar that was extremely positive. The original two prototypes were both bought by club members.

Well now that I think about it's totally logical,
U for under, T for Top and the 681 randomly selected by the marketing computer. I feel so stupid, I should have seen that right off. Too many jet fuel fumes I guess......

T is for Thelma and she can be very unidirectional at times.

I believe we are confusing frets and strings again... One of them is real long and very skinny.

Hi,

I've seen the specs on music 123's web site.

Is the a wide neck, (1 7/8 nut width)??
Looks like a sweet guitar, but then aren't all Ovation.

Dave, did you play it at NAMM?

What were your thoughts on it?

I've played three of them. The first two were the non-electric protos (belonging to Woz and Mike). Incredible guitars. The third one was the current model, which has a slightly different top than the protos. I played this at NAMM but could not hear it worth a damn. It's like trying to sit down and play a guitar in the middle of WalMart. Those who have played it in a quiet room rave about it, although they think the new top might not quite be as nice as the proto.

Haven't played the current ones, but played Woz's and one at the Factory . . . . AWESOME guitars!
They sound different from the original SlotHeads, not better/worse, but "different". The sound is a little bit more "rounded" than the original Slot.

What's different on the current tops?

I've played all three and couldn't tell any difference. That may not say much for either my ability or ear.

Cliff, your slothead has a deeper, more mellow tone. The newer slots have a crisper sound while still having a deeper tone than most of Ovation's other guitars.

What you'll like depends upon what you're looking for.... I like both sounds, but if I had to choose, I'd go for the sound of your slothead. Personal preference, but that's why I'm waitng for the OFC guitar.

And having said that, I agree with Dave that a 12 string version of the new slot would be killer.

1-11/16. Soft C profile. If it was 1-3/4 I would have bought it on the spot. I played all three designs and probably like the 2nd generation one the best, but all three are wonderful.

Well, I went to GC and played an Elite LX and C778LX, both with the same 1 11/16" Neck. Both nice, But, because I'm used to my 1763's I-5, six lane hwy for a neck, I felt very cramped on this neck. I was really hoping that this slot head would and least hit the comprimise of the 1 3/4 or better yet (for me), the 1 7/8 from Folklore. I guess I'll just have to be content with the 12 fret slothead I already own.....
