Location: Huntington Beach, CA | Hello All,
Just bought a great sounding old guitar at a local shop. Has the foil label with model number but can't find serial number to get age. There is a number inside on the neck joint block that looks like 12239 but can't locate anything like it on this of the Ovation website. The shop said it is a Balladeer, I think it is called an "Artist" which, according to Ovation is a slightly shallower bowl.
If anyone can date it for me, I'd appreciate it. Otherwise, I'm loving the sound. Just has volume control and battery pack is held in by screw through the bowl. Everything works, although I bought it for the acoustic sound. Very warm, the neck (5-piece) is very comfortable with gloss finish.
This baby has been through the war, but so have I. Just love those vintage "O's".

Location: Huntington Beach, CA | Thank you Mr. Moody. Does anyone have the scoop on this model? I'm curious because there are not many around. Or am I wrong? Thanks.

Location: Phoenix AZ | The Artist came in three versions starting around 1972:
1121/1621 Artist Balladeer, dot inlays, chrome hardware. Basically a Standard Balladeer with a shallower bowl.
1127/1627 Glen Campbell Artist Balladeer, diamond inlays, gold hardware, GC TRC. Pretty much a Legend neck on an Artist Balladeer body.
1124/1624 Country Artist, nylon string, 1-7/8 nut, flat fretboard, slothead, chrome hardware. |

Location: SoCal | Most of what Dave said is correct, but along with the shallower bowl came the VT bracing pattern. It really changed the sound. |

Most of what Dave said is correct No, ALL of what I said was correct, you just added MORE! We better be careful, people here will think we bicker like a married couple. And don't forget about that pre-nup you signed. You do NOT get the FD14, sorry.

Location: Huntington Beach, CA | Thanks Boys. Good info, as always. This model has the dot markers so probably 72, huh? I think the shallower bowl is deeper than midsize, does anyone know? Sounds full and balanced.
Can the electronics be upgraded to include the tone/volume combo? I don't want to do anything radical, just a minnor improvement. Thanks again for the knowledge base.

Location: Phoenix AZ | Bowl is shallower than midsize. Order from deepest to most shallow is Adamas, Deep, Mid, Artist, and Supershallow. Yes electronics are easy to upgrade. Bt while you are at it, you may want to install an external battery hatch. Dave |
