Location: Harsens Island, MI | Has anyone combined the two? We had a gathering of Ovation fans and I took a few for a boat ride. While I was concerned with and paying attention to navigating and gages, the guys were discussing the harmonic properties of the engines. It was an aspect that I'd never considered--I always thought the engines sounded "good", but not necessarily in a musical way. |

Use a strobe tuner to find the frequency (note) of the drone of the engine. Tune the guitars to that key and use the drone note as... well a drone note to build off of.
Trolling motor drone could be a song about fishing.
WOT drone could be a tune about the wide open waters.
Just musing... |

Location: USA | I grew up on the beach in a fishing family, and having taken my first acoustic out on the ocean once I can say it's a good mix of activities. However, actually using the boat as an instrument never occurred to me, but I suppose with the right equipment and time you could record some pretty cool sounds. Probably would work well on a Pink Floyd album. |
