I actually have 2 questions. I currently only have one ovation: my elite t. I saw at guitar center today a really cool looking elite, though. It also only had the bass side sound holes, but this one was a shiny black finish with an epaulet. The epaulet was single color, not multiple like most. It was an LX but the epaulet was not lasered in (it stuck out a little from the top).

1. Does anyone know what model this might be? I looked through the LXs on the site and it's not in there.
2. If I wanted to remove the epaulet, either to replace it with a cooler looking one or just have it gone, would there be finish underneath? Do they put these on after the finish?

Nonis, do a search on the OFC bulletin board. There's a photo of a guitar that had the epaulets removed. It had quite an impressive appearance. Try 'sans epaulets' in the search.

Anyone have any idea what model this might have been? I tried to go back to the guitar center but it was closed right when I came. I would prefer to buy it somewhere else, but I might be able to get a discount from a friend there, and I don't know where else to get it if I don't know the model... I'll go check tomorrow if nobody tells me. =D

I saw that one yesterday. It's a GC1778N-5, or something like that. Appears to be a made-for-Guitar Center model, with 1778T features (maple neck, black tuners and saddle) but with a normal finish black top. The one I saw had the single color epaulet, but it was under the finish (laser cut into the top).

Cool. Thanks. I believe this one had the epaulet above the top. I wanted to take the epaulet off and either paint it or trace it and replace it with a painted thing of the same shape. I don't like the wood colors on the epaulets. =P

Aw. I went back and it is inlayed. ]=

I was really excited about this too. I want one with just the bass side sound holes + epaulet that I can tear off and replace. Oh well. /=

Just put your custom eppi over the inlaid one. Then you don't have to 'tear off', only replace. If you do it right, it can be easily reversible (think velcro or wood magnets).

That last part was a joke - wood magnets!

There was an Elite standard model (6778LX-VN I think) that came out last year that had a vintage natural finish top with a single bass-side Koa epi...really pretty instrument for under $900 new. I used to have a 1778T in black - that is one powerhouse of an instrument for the price, and looks really cool under stage lighting.
