Location: Glendora, CA | Hey All, Looking to upgrade the tuning pegs in my Applause AA10 Travel Guitar to Ovation OEM tuning pegs. I really love this little travel guitar - with its fiberglass back and spruce top it has a great sound - fuller than any other travel guitar I have tried - plus its built like a brick sh*thouse so its great for just about anywhere. However they skimped on the tuning pegs when it was built in Korea. It has crappy generic brand tuning pegs - and I think this little traveler deserves the real thing. I would prefer gold not silver, I have seen them advertised on ebay for $100 - $125 which seems a little steep since thats what i paid for the guitar in the first place! http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-OVATION-Gold-3x3-Guitar-Original-Tuning-Pegs-Tuners-Set-/371391170694?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item5678a38886 Anyone have any of these for sale or have guidence if this is a realistic price that should be paid for the OEM tuning pegs... Thanks in advance! |

Ovation used several styles where the screw on the back was located in different positions around the clock, and even some without screws.
I've paid as little as $50 for Custom Legend tuners. (Schaller - gold with pearloid buttons) I've also paid about the same for gold celebrity tuners.
IMO, anything over $50-60 is too much money. You can buy brand new gold Schallers from Stewmac for $130.

Also found on really cheap Epiphone Epoch and other stuff like Starcasters and Lyons.
If you want to replace them with real Ovation tuners, just get whichever you like and drill another hole.
The current standard Ovation tuners have one hole at 6 O'clock like Grovers.
Or you could get Grovers.
Actually, Grover Sta-Tite open backed tuners are very Light and have 18-1 gear ration.
Unless you are determined to have something that sez "Ovation" on them.
