Hi, I'm new to Ovation and bought this guitar for all the wrong reasons and completely the wrong way! I didn't see it or play it before buying on eBay and I'd never played an Ovation before - I just loved the look and new their excellent reputation so had a 'what the heck' moment

Having bought it I love it; it's a very pretty guitar that plays and sounds as good as it looks (despite the muppet holding it...).

I'd like to know more about it, but can find very little information at all (I think it's solid Koa - can anyone confirm or correct this notion?).

I'd like to obtain an original owners manual (pdf would be fine), know how old it is (it looks brand new), and know where I can find a serial number. I'd also like some advice on cleaning and maintenance.

Thank you in anticipation or an overwhelming number of responses!

Ooops - I can't work out how to attach a photo so it might be tricky for you to comment on the finish!

The CDX44 and the CSE44 were both "higher end" Celebrity guitars a while back.
Neither of which are made any longer.
I have had a couple of CSE Celebrity's... But I have never touched a CDX.
I know that the solid spruce versions of these guitars were solid top, I ain't sure about the "Figured Koa".
You can open the back of the guitar... See if the wood on the inside matches the wood on the outside.
Yours was made in Korea...
Probably in the same factory that Fender currently makes AX and TX Ovations now.
The serial number should be inside the bowl by the neck joint on a rectangular sticker.
Older serial numbers have no relation to when the guitar was made..
At least nothing that is "search-able".
The newer, Post-Fender serial numbers will give you the year.
So, if your is newer the first couple of digits are the year.
But I believe that all the CDX's were made this century.
There are no "model specific" manuals for most Ovation guitars.
But if you go to http://www.ovationtribute.com/Owner%27s%20Manual.html you can find some general info.

It looks like a nice guitar.
I cannot tell about the action, but it also looks like you have room to lower it if necessary.

Look around this site and Ovation Tribute and you may find some answers.
The Koa versions are pretty rare. Looks nice to me!

Hello Mike and welcome. I've updated your membership so feel free to move about. Arthur probably knows more about Celebrities than anyne I know, but you might find more anwers in the main forum groups.

Thanks for your comments Arthur.

I've had a look inside and the wood looks to be the same - I can't see anything that makes me think it is composite/ply so I think it's solid.

I'm a novice with guitars.  I have a Fender 'beginners' guitar I bought a few years ago and have taught myself a few chords. When I saw this guitar I loved the look of it and behaved  uncharacteristically impulsively in buying it!  I'm playing it lots - it puts a grin on my face every time I pick it up.

I changed the strings straightaway and took all but a very skinny shim out which has lowered the action.  I get occasional 'buzz' now so I may put another skinny one in (not brave enough to start messing with truss rods!).

I'm amazed by how little anyone knows about this guitar so would like to find out and post about it.  I'm aware that its structure and materials are not conventional and I don't want to clean it with anything that would cause damage. Presuming I should avoid Silicon, I guess any reasonable polish would be okay for the sound board.  What should I use for cleaning the fret board and bowl back?

I've found an owners manual (see attached) and some info about the Op-Pro Pre-Amp
