I did some searching here for recording my practice sessions and playback capabilities. All I found was this. .

I thought I found a solution on 'CL' with a Fostex MR8 for $85. But no response.

So, any recommendations as how to start out slow and see if I catch the home studio fever? BTW, I do have a Casio keyboard w/ MIDI thats still in the box. At some point I would to mix that in also.

And yes I googled the topic, but most, if not all, results were beyond my meager desires.

TIA!

I just upgraded my old Boss BR-8 to a Fostex MR16HD; go for the MR8 with the 40 gig hard drive; I've heard that the CF cards don't hold much. Around $250 and you're set; if you don't use it you sell it for $200 (or, if you bought it at MF you can send it back within 30 days).

There are tons of threads on this board about home recording. Try just searching for "recording" and see what you turn up.

A few months ago I posted some clips I recorded & a couple people asked for help in setting up to record on their computers. I put together a basic tutorial that should get you started if you want to go that route. HTH.

For home recording try this set up:
Tascam casette 4 track (can be found on ebay for $25)
Small alesis mixer (I'd buy this new $99)
Cheap MXL condensor Mic (on ebay for $40)
Shure PG 58 (New $35)
And for mix down:
Sony CDR-W33 CD (Used $150)

Results Priceless

No kidding you can achieve some great recordings at home without spending an arm and a leg.

Unless of course you want to boost the economy. :D

g8r,

BINGO! That's what I was looking for! Gr8 job! That should keep me out of trouble for a while. :p

Thanx from a 'Noles' fan! :D

mattsmith ,

I know 'bout slippery slopes! After a 33 year guitar hiatus I purchased a beach git thirteen months ago. Now look at my sig line. That's not counting my 'others'...

So if g8r's tutorial scratches my itch, watch out! ;) Don't go away. I have a feeling I'll be back...
