Location: Burbank | I have been hearing for a long time here about how everone LOVES the Pacemaker 12 string. I worked it out a couple of months ago to get a 1115. I got it, took the strings off and cleaned it up and re-strung it. I've been playing it and the sound is really bright and a bit too tinny for me. I took out my 1758 elite and play the same stuff on it and it has a much beefier sound in a 12 string that I prefer. What you you guys think. I am actually considering parting with the 1115. ANyone else share this opinion here? |

Location: Steeler Nation, Hudson Valley Contingent | I agree that there is an obvious difference in tone between those two, but I happen to like them both. In fact, that's what I find appealing about owning different guitars all around. Sometimes I want coffee; sometimes I want tea. Know what I mean?
And like always, if the sound doesn't click your gears, then you have the perfect excuse to sell it and buy something else.  |

Location: cincinnati, ohio | Yeah - I got a 1115 new about 36 years ago and love it; sounds like a harpsichord. Gorgeous tone.
What kind of strings are on it? I use D'addario lights.

Location: Tennessee | I'm with you, Mario. I had a very nice early 12 fret 12 string, but it moved on. My 14 fret custom legend 12 is far more to my liking. There was nothing wrong with it, I just prefer a different flavor of ice cream. |

1115 with D'Addario and or coated Elixers - Harpsichord sound, very loud but mostly for the rythym and chord playing.
1115 with a set of Elixer Heavy 12 String set, tuned down to D-D or C-C - this is an assault weapon... monster sound on strumming and the mid strings really pop on leads and single string picking.
1115 with Electric High Nickel set - not so loud but the fretting and fingering is much smoother. I got this tip from Sergio Lara, aka Country Artist. If you plug in this sound is the way to go since you can EQ any sound or tone you want and you can play twice as long.
1115 with Medium Elixers but use two standard G strings vs the high octave - takes some of the tinny-ness out if needed.
For All-Round and Lead play I suggest the Adamas and the Custom Elite LX 12's to fill your needs. |

Location: Colorado Rocky Mountains | My 12-string preference is an EA-58 Viper. If you like the EA-68 Vipers, then you should like these for the same reasons. Sounds like an acoustic, handles and plays like an electric. |

Location: Jet City | I have both. I tune the pacemaker to other tunings on occasion for some really cool songing stuff... Rain Song, That's the Way, Cinnamon Girl, and several others
works good for me. if I had to choose 1... no contest, the custom elite lx

Location: Steeler Nation, Hudson Valley Contingent | As cool as my custom Pacemaker looks, the hardest left I took from the original design was the A-bracing. I think the originals had "fan" or something. Matched with the walnut top, I still get a bit of that harpsichord effect, but it's got a touch more bass to balance it out.
Then there's my trusty Custom Balladeer. "Spruce with A-bracing" = "smooth and loud"; a tone I've never grown weary of.

Location: Burbank | Thanks for the replys guys. Been busy took a while to get back. I get the ice cream reference, makes sense. I am still selling the 6751 which is a 3rd flavor of ice cream as well. With three 12's I am most partial to the 1758. If someone is interested in the 1115, I may be putting in the for sale section soon. It is in great if not excellent condition. still thinking about it. I may try a few of the above listed ideas first and then pull the plug if my feeling doesn't change. These are the "fun" decisions to make. I wish all of lifes difficult ones were like this! |
