Location: CA | Okay, you got your U.S.-made Ovations, which are universally considered 'best', and your far-east made Celebs, Applause, etc. which, generally speaking, are considered 'not as good' as U.S. But at any rate, you can look up the specs on most of the currently made Ovations on the main O website.
But then you have guitars like the 1578-4 DLX, which has been mentioned here on occasion. The one that looks like a blingy Elite. It's there every day on ebay (item 120337430550) along with an even blingier figured mahogany model. Yet they are nowhere to be found on the O website. WTF? 'Discovering' this guitar was a bit like discovering that Ford had a sexy new T-bird that they never marketed or even bothered to mention.
Complicating the issue — well maybe it's not an 'issue', but like I say, just wonderin' — this thing has a sold spruce top (I could live without the bearclaw) and if you read the seller's writeup, about the only thing they sub out overseas is the abalone pufling (which he says takes 2/3 of the build time). The rest of the assembly is done in U.S. So I ask the question the seller asks: "You tell me where it was built."
So I ask you Ovation experts, why is this not on the website and why is it so below the radar marketing-wise. Far as I can tell, only Oklahoma Vintage Guitar carries it, but they say it is the "best selling most satisfying Ovation model in the history of our store." |

Location: Keepin' It Weird in Portland, OR | It is an Ultra... So it was made in Korea and they put the strings on in CT (maybe).
They didn't build this in the USA and send it to Korea for the Abalone...
These are 'new' Ultras... Built in Korea, Set-up in the USA.
The only person who sells these is Brother Bobby, so maybe it was a special order for him.
Kinda like the Sweetwater T, except his is Asian.
I know that these have been listed forever on evilBay, but that doesn't mean that he has Thousands of them. He coulda ordered a hundred at a great discount, and he has been trying to sell them ever since.
People try to do research on them, cannot find anything about them, and buy something else.
I think that these actually have a solid top, but there is nowhere to research.
But if you cannot find anything about them on Google... people pass on them.
Plus, they don't come with a case...
But he did have the Foresight to buy a bunch of iDea modules and stick them in Good Guitars! :cool: |

Location: CA | OMA — that explanation is the only one that makes any sense. Otherwise, you gotta wonder if there are other Ovation models — Ultras or not — that are floating around out there that only a few people know about. (A center hole version of this one, for example.)
I guess the bottom line is that it would be great to have some website that kept track of ALL Ovations made, including the special order ones like Sweetwater T, GC178, and these 1578s. Some are pretty nice guitars. It would make the most sense for Ovation to do it on their website. But I guess that's not going to happen any time soon. |

I plan on sending info to Jerome and Dave as soon as I get pics and what little history there is about it. It might actually be a one-off, but definitely less than ten in the world. I'm kind of hoping folks here will help dredge up some details once I can give a detailed description.

They say it will take 5 days, and after it's all arranged (and paid for), and you see the estimated delivery, they clarify that it's five business days. It's bad enough having to read fine print, but now you have to make sure they speak it too! :rolleyes:
It's a shame about the insurance limits on Priority Mail, they'd make a killing with 3-day deliveries from my PO at least. But that limit more or less forces you into the UPS depot. |
