Location: Texas | I have a 1619 sunburst that needs to have the soundboard replaced. The guitar still sounds and plays great. Is it worth repairing? |

| pictures of the damage would help and a description of the issues..
The custom legend 1619 was the top of the line guitar for Ovation and in my opinion if not a total basket case is well worth having restored.
The factory and crew do phenomenal work and your guitar will return to you in as new condition.
also, if you are the original registered buyer and owner of the guitar.... your guitar has a lifetime warranty for most repairs not related to abuse.

Second, the answer to your question really depends on you. Are you willing to spend the money and be without the guitar for a while? Does this Legend have a special place in your guitar-playing heart?
If you answered yes to the above then, from everything I've heard and read, you will be blown away with what you get back from the Mothership (Ovation factory) and think it was money well spent. I'm guessing that soundboard means the wood top of the guitar. If so, you will get a new bowl and top (braced as your original) married together. And if you think the guitar needs anything else, let them do it there.
But is the damage just in the finish? You say the guitar still plays and sounds great. Show us pics if you can.

I'll concur with the above; if you can post photos, you will probably get a lot more responses.
Todd G.'s question about the nature of the problem is also very valid. If it is cosmetic and not likely to lead to functional issues, play it! Finish cracks on older guitars are not really a big problem unless the cracks are actually in the wood. Superficial cracks might lower the resale value, but they won't effect the sound or playability of the guitar.
Whether it is cosmetic or more serious, the folks at the factory have a reputation for performing miracles.
I also strongly agree with Glenn, an old Custom Legend in playable condition is almost certainly worth saving/restoring.

And...even cracks through the wood are not necessarily "fatal," as those of us who have guitars with the "extra sound vent" can tell you. My 1111-4 Balladeer has one from the bridge to the purfling, just east of the middle. The Mothership fixed it, and even though you can still see it, it doesn't seem to make any difference in how she plays. (And they talked me out of replacing my 30+-year-old top, and I'm so glad they did.)
Because of their recommendation, she still has that deep, aged mellow sound and the warm reddish-gold top; if I were you, I wouldn't conclude anything about what yours may need until someone from up there looks at it. (Of course, if it was run over by a semi, well, that's an entirely different story... ;) )

You basically will get a new guitar with your old neck, finished in whatever color, burst, or style you want. They even upgraded my electronics. Here's a link to my ning site photos ...
