I need the help of any of you Ovation gurus out there: I have a friend who is just starting to play, and I've been tapped to give her the basics of guitar. She has a low budget (approx $150), and is in need of a decent steel string guitar. I am currently using my 2 Elites in the lesson process, but am checking Ebay and local pawn shops when possible for a decent beginners guitar. Can anyone point me in the direction of something in this price range that will hold a tune and get her through about the first year or two? Please contact me if you do.

Thank you all for your help.

Find a "beater" Balladeer, one with maybe a lot of finish cracks or a chip missing off the headstock. These usually go cheap on eBay. Now here's the kicker. Don't buy it for her, buy it for yourself, and let her "keep" it to learn on. You'll earn points for "giving" her one of your guitars. Then, if the unfortunate happens and you break up, you still have a nice beater Ovation you can take to the beach, on camping trips, etc. and save the nice Elites for gigging.

Check Portland craigslist. Last I checked there was a really good Custom Balladeer for $200. It was by no means a beater, so it would be something she'd be proud to play.

Here is a possible easy snag if you can find a tuning peg.

bvince, and you others, thank you very much!! I will see how the luck of the bidding goes. I can only hope this girl gets famous. She has the looks, now on to the fret work.

Thank you all again!

Aw... Use the eBay Bid Assistant...
Bid on all three, and it will stop bidding when you win one or run-outta-money!

Either one of them Balladeers is nice.
You need a Slot-head tuner on that other one, but it could be nice one day.
