Ovation Guitars was only five years old when they made this instrument. The Serial number dates it to 1973, so it has thirty-four years of character (AKA dings and nicks), more character (AKA outstanding, mellow tone), and more character (let's just call it MOJO).

After three decades, it has some aesthetic issues, but MAN, does it have ti where it counts! I've heard folks say they can take or leave VT-10 bracing, but this one has excellent tone with good bass, balanced trebles, and some serious sustain. The playability is spot on. The action is just fine. Honestly, it is a joy to play and hear.

It has quite a few dings and nicks, the worst of which I've tried to get pictures of, but I want to reiterate that the instrument is structurally sound and should continue to be so for a long, long time. It has one finish crack about 2" long right next to the neck, and there is also a small split in the fret-board at the soundhole form where the wood got too dry in the past some time. Otherwise, there are various types of aesthetic imperfections common to older guitars; again look closely at the pics.

Since someone is going to ask anyway, here are the basics: it's a spruce topped, VT-10-braced, 12-fret, 2-inch-nutted, non-pre-amped, pleasingly toned bit of solid American craftsmanship.

It comes with a non-standard, hardshell case. If you need a good, solid instrument to take anywhere you please and still draw attention to yourself in a good way, this is your guitar! I'm asking $495 including insured shipping in the continental US. I'll ship overseas, but check for a shipping quote and have a seat before you read it.

Just remember that this is a player's instrument, not a prom queen. With that in mind, you won't be disappointed.

Feel free to ask questions, and be sure to follow the ning link for more pictures.

Thanks for looking.

Built in '73 means it's almost 40 years old.
