Currently I'm using what came with my soundcard, I have tried some of the others like Windows Media player, Musicmatch, but well they seem slow want me to buy. Is their something more professional that maybe has some good mangagement features. I own Nero for doing DVD/CD burning it has OK software. Any suggestions

DbPowerAmp is free, no popups, no hidden adware or any of that. Does a great job. They've been around quite a while, and have support for lots of codecs. Check out some of their other free stuff, they've also got a great free audio converter .

I use Foobar2000 to play all my music through.

It's free (always a bonus), and great. It's been going for ages now, so it's not like some half-working project...

It's basic, in terms that it doesn't have bells and whistles unelss you want to add them, and has a really small memory footprint (i.e. doesn't slow everything else up).

Get it from: http://www.foobar2000.org/

There's also masses of support and tutorials for anything you want to add at: http://www.hydrogenaudio.org/forums/index.php

You don't need to add anything into the initial package to play stuff though - just download, install, and you're on a flyer. It's all pretty intuitive, I think.

If you try it and get stuck, drop me a PM or a mail and I'll see what I can do - I'm not world class at it, but I can get you into second gear...

Would these also support video? What would be the difference between these and Winamp?

Hi Weaser

Not aware that FooBar can play video, but I'll look into it and report back. For me, the fundamental difference from Winamp is that it's less cluttered and quicker - fewer cool things, and more emphasis on getting the sound out!

Real Alternative will play just about anything. Video and audio of just about every codec out there. I refuse to have Real Media products on my computers - this plays thier media just fine.

Why the boycott of Real? Are they bad guys?

Thier player is probably the single most invasive piece of 'free' software around. It install all kinds of non-essential crap, has security holes galore, runs a bunch of background processes, pretty much associates itself with all kinds of media types (whether you want it to or not). It is banned in virtually every major company network just because of the security problems. Winamp has many of the same issues.

Real Obnoxious
Why Realplayer sucks

Oh, yeah. It's also notoriously hard to GET RID OF.
