Location: SoCal | Wow, I'm impressed. Here's a Custom Baladeer for sale on ebay and the seller is claiming that the neck is made of graphite. Either he has something extremly rare, or he's dumb as a stump. Any guess?

Location: Scotland | Yep, it's black paint. Musician's friend advertise the Elite-T as having a "composite" top, yet we all know it's just bowl-paint over spruce. A UK dealer advertised an Eclipse as "made entirely from space-age Lyracord" for the same reason. |

| I posed this question to the seller.
“How do you know the neck is graphite?”
His reply was.
“Hi,
Thanks for your question. You can tell a graphite neck from one made of
wood by the fact that no wood grain is visible, it feels a little different
and the sound is a little clearer and has a more even tone response. This
guitar neck has no finish, apart from the varnish on the front of the
headstock (which is purely for looks). Graphite necks don't require
finishing like wood ones do - unprotected wood will respond to changes in
temperature and humidity and may warp. Graphite doesn't have this problem.
If you look closely at the picture of the back of the headstock you can get
a sense of what the material is like. To my knowledge Ovation hasn't made
many Guitars with Graphite necks, but they frequently use similar
materials - the "bowl", for instance, is made of a synthetic material called
"lyrachord". Ovation started out as branch of Kaman, an Aerospace
technology company that engineered Helicopters. In particular, they worked
with new materials that prevented excessive vibrations. They used their
research to the opposite end when the started making, or engineering,
guitars.
All in all it's a great sounding and great looking guitar.

Location: Canada | Does anyone know for sure if there such thing as an Ovation with a graphite neck? (not including some home made dupe that is)
Personally, I've never seen one. OOH, maybe my Celebrity with black paint also has a graphite neck!!! Honestly, I don't know what this guy's on about, but you can definately feel the difference between a graphite neck and a wood neck and I don't think this guy knows what he's talking about. Graphite necks have sharper tones (I don't know what he means by even tone response) and a lot less warmth than wood.
I have several Steinbergers (all graphite necks, and some with graphite bodies too) and the difference is quite obvious. |

Location: Scotland | The Adamas Q has a graphite neck, if fact apart from the bridge & fingerboard it is entirely graphite.

wood by the fact that no wood grain is visible" Using that logic the majority of solid-colour guitars out there must be made of Graphite. The weave pattern which can be clearly seen in carbon fibre is a dead giveaway. This is black paint. MSB, email the seller & ask him to remove a tuning machine. It should be come apparrent to him then from the hole through the headstock, that it's a black-painted mahogany neck.

Location: 6 String Ranch | The only other grafite necks (aside from the Q) were the run of Adamas 3 guitars that had necks made by Status Bass in England. There were about 30-50 of these. All the others are painted. End of story.
Someone should ask this guy why the balladeer has an adjustment for the tension rod if it's a grafite neck???!! |

| I asked the seller if he would remove a tuning machine, look in the hole and tell me what he saw.
No reply yet but I noticed after I sent the email he ended the auction and relisted the guitar without the graphite neck. Those Canadians are a gutsy bunch.
