BTW, nobody caught the joke in my other post about the Bill Bixby signature model... Bill Bixby, get it? ... As in "My Favorite MARTIN". Ok, ha ha not that funny I guess. I know we rag on them a lot, but you've got to hand it to Martin. They obviously see ROI in amassing a large stable of endorsees and the signature models must sell, otherwise they would not keep doing them. Maybe they suck, who knows, but the obviuously make money for the Big M and that's what matters. Hats off the Martin. The hibernating bear called Ovation, seems to finally be coming out of his long sleep. The new products are much improved, the marketing is maybe starting to make sense and I actually see some efforts at merchandising the box shops. Let's hope O can round out the game plan by getting a decent team of modern endorsees and suck up to the trade press, buy review space, whatever it takes.

The Pensa came up about three times, but he also used the ol' National, a couple Strats, a Tele, and the Gibson S400. Great way to give the audience a huge range of different sounds! Now if we could just get his DVDs in the US. (this one was a shady "import" from Russia)

I know that they don't have to use a Martin to get a Signature Series Martin. They just have to agree to have them built. And they get one free. Who wouldn't take one? Bill

The interviewer made a comment regarding the acoustic that McGuinn was playing there in the studio. It was a 7-string that he had custom made by Martin. There was an octave string added to just one string (I believe it was the G) that allowed him to get that "chimey" Byrds-style to his picking while still allowing him the freedom to "bend" on the solos with the B&E, and also be able to get the 6-string "thunk" on the bass strings. Naturally, Martin will be producing it as a McGuinn Signature Model . . .

I'm 34, and I really enjoy seeing guys continuing to work at their craft long after the free MTV chicks have become wrinkle-lipped saggy titted road wenches. I saw Rush last weekend, and had the same thought about those three guys - but especially Neil Peart. After losing his daughter, then his wife, then taking 5 years off and riding all over the continent on the saddle of a BMW, he came out of the funk and is now playing the most atrocious Buddy Rich, African, Cherokee, Polka, Keith Moon shit of his life. And it is obvious he loves every minute of it. I like thinking that years don't have to wear you down. I am counting on it.
