Location: Fort Worth, Texas | OK, I threw on my Quicksilver Messenger Service in the car this morning. What kind of effects was John Cippolina using to create that sound? Can Alpep's Viper create that sound?
And....
I have a Genz-Benz Shenandoah 85 acoustic amp, it has these effects:
Chorus Plate
Chorus Room
2 different Halls
3 different Rooms
3 different Plates
Chorus
Flange
2 different Delays
Anybody use these?
What other effects are you playing through? |

Location: San Bernardino, California | I usually use Hughes & Kettner recording station pre-amp into a Line 6 Modulation Modeler then into a Alesis Nano-Verb then into a Gemini Pa-7000 used as a headphone-amp/computer-interface.
H&K is set clean, Line 6 MM usually on Dimension IV, Nano-Verb just barely there with Plate 1.
I think Cipollinas sound is mostly due to the Bigsby he had on his SG. |

Location: NJ | JOhn Cippolina one of my favorite guitarists.
he used
Gibson SG
Standell Amp
Fender Twin
Wurlitzer hi frequency horns (and yes I have one)
JOhn was a fokie who converted to electric guitar and often played with his fingers and had great left hand vibrato.
when I think psychedelic music quicksilver always comes to mind. John's solos in fresh air is a classic. Although he often went for a very shrill sound, it really fit the music.
Can you get that sound through my viper? don't tempt me. |

Location: Toronto | Hey Paul, I have a PODxt Pro and think it's amazing...
Most of the time I run my 'O', clean through a mixer (maybe with a touch of onboard effect). But if I'm feeling a little crazy - I'll drop it into the POD and have virtually every kind of effect I want. With the more recent software upgrades from Line6 - I can manage all the effects from my PC in a pretty cool graphic interface!!! |

Location: Fort Worth, Texas | Thanks AL. Nice site about John Cippolina. That explains it!! Love the part "Truck running lights indicated which effect was being used".
Excellent. |

Location: 6 String Ranch | I always thought his sound came from all we injested before listening to him. Their first album was the best, loved the last tune on the second side (at the time). The second and third albums were good too, Nicky Hopkins really added something as did Dino on vocals (who also wrote get together that the Youngbloods did) |

point well taken.
Sometimes brute force rules over talent. |
