I just bought my first Ovation, an Ebay fixer upper. Is the truss rod tool a standard allen wrench? If so, what size? This is the type with the adjustment at the neck heel.
The guitar is a 1612 Custom Balladeer, year 1985 according to the nifty serial number dating info. I've always wanted an Ovation, and already love this one. It's a beautiful sunburst with love cracks in the finish.
Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the site.
Here is a link to the "Owner's Manual" found at the Ovation Web site:
O Manual
I can't remember the size of the wrench but 1/4" rings a bell. It is SAE and not Metric.
I can appreciate the "Pre-loved" features of a used O.
See you around! |

I found the manual, but only see a part number for the tool, no size. Will hunt down a 1/4" and see how it goes. |

Looks like 1/4" is the correct size for some models. Maybe 3/16" only applies to those with a Kaman bar? |

Location: Paris/France | Thanks Guys,
It's my pleasure to share my passion with all of you.
I really love these guitars and, even if this passion is a little bit "expensive", I'm in contact with lots of people around the world and it's really great.
I see the world a little bit better since i've started to create the web site.
There's a lot of very kind people in every country!! And it's good to know it...
Ok, i stop here my "philosophy"...
Just some words more. I'm in negociation at this moment with an old french luthier. He's got a lot of great Ovation's stuffs and he's near to agree to sell his stock to me...
Please, cross your fingers with me because i really hope to share these documents with you pretty soon.
Jérôme ;) |
