I wanted to use my 97 Collector Parlor for a solo in church this week and it was feeding back. I bought a round plug at a local music store, called the "Feedback Buster" I think, that is a rubber plug that fills the soundhole. Worked great in eliminating feedback. My question is how much electric sound did I give up, if any. Everyone said it sound good. Do these plugs deaden any of the sound?

The p/u only "hears" string pressure and a little top vibration. It doesn't hear the sound coming out of the soundhole.

One possible irony that occurs to me is this: it was most likely feeding back because of high monitor volume. Putting a feedback buster reduces the natural volume and eliminates the feedback but then may require more monitor volume to hear yourself.

I don't like being completely dependent on monitors to hear myself unless I am playing an electric/acoustic like a viper. Perhaps experimenting with monitor volume and placement.

Of course this is a moot point if your FOH was where the feedback occured.

I am pretty sure the feedback was coming from the monitors. I should have played with that but I needed a quick fix. The Church's PA and soundman are not the best.

I've only use a feedback buster in my 1968 Martin 12 String. I have a condenser flexmike in it. Dampens the sound acoustically but takes care of potential feedback when plugged in. As for my Ovations I've never had any feedback problems but I usually don't require a lot of monitor. I haven't played my 1997 collectors out anywhere yet but plugged in a home it has a pretty hot signal and I was on the next to the lowest setting on the Stealth system.

Next time you're at the church only bring the Marshall half stack, should lessen the feedback.
