Location: Hong Kong | Hi all, first post!
A guy I know has a Korea-made Ovation Celebrity Deluxe CS-257 for sale and I hoping it'll become my first Ovation! It has a beautiful tobacco sunburst finish, and the binding is yellowing nicely with age.
My question is, how much is a fair price to pay? I think it's around eight years old. Also, the action is kind of high. How would I go about lowering it?
Thanks a lot! |

You can also use the Search function for this site and find threads discussing it. If the action is more than just 'kind of high', there may be a more serious problem.

Location: Texas | Hi BP - I am not an expert on the Celebrity but I would assume a used one - 300 to 400 max - and that might be pushing it. You might look at the USA made Elite - a little more money but might be worth it. There are some on ebay that are close to the price you are looking at -some have "make an offer." Check them out on Harmoney Central, you might like them. IMHO :p |

Location: Hong Kong | Thanks for the pointers, I'll check out prices on ebay.
I don't think the high action is a serious problem -- the neck looks fine and the bridge seems to be lying flat on the soundboard. Hopefully there are some shims that can be removed. |

Location: Boise, Idaho | What Al said. I played an Ultra last night. They are pretty nice. I wouldn't spend much on a CS 257 or any other shallow bowl. I bought 2 CS247s, which I think are better guitars, since they have mid bowls, but paid $200 to $300 for them. I like to think I got good deals on them or I wouldn't have bought them. Prices vary a bunch, subject to availability, location and taste. |
