Found an older Folklore 1114-4 in really nice shape, fair price. Serial number is K-806. Looking at the Ovation Tribute page to determine the year of manufacture left me a bit confused. I get the 3-digit part. It’s the ‘K’ that’s got me all crossed up.

Can anyone enlighten me on this mystery (to me)?

Probably late 1971, since the Folklore was introduced as acoustic and acoustic/electric at the same time. First acoustic/electrics show up in the 1972 price list. I've seen guitars from that period with all kinds of alphabet soup serial numbers M. G, K, L whatever.

That’s what I was going with, ‘K’ as good as any other letter, the number being the key.

Thanks Dave

Ended up passing. Bad buzz on #1 E, BAD belly on top with smiles at either end of bridge, crack at base of headstock, probably just finish, but who knows. Had a beautiful, nearly as new, brown w/purple HSC though. Ask was $300.

Hey Beal,

Doing just fine. Working too much, but like what I'm doing, so all good. Need to play guitar more, Internet less.

Still spending the bulk of your time in TX or back and forth between there and FL? I'm near Bradenton, FL now. Will retire in a couple more years with any luck.

Thanks for asking.
