Location: Pewaukee, WI | I have an Elite with non-original (but correct) schaller 135 angle tuners, and I'm thinking of going with either an M6 or Gotoh 381 or 510 for the higher ratio. Will a Gotoh with the correct 135 angle just drop in? |

Location: Ottawa, Ontario, CANADA | Hey, Randy 22,
Schaller tuners and Gotoh tuners are like apples and oranges. Check out both the SCHALLER website, and the GOTOH website, and you can see the differences. Ovation uses Schaller tuners as OEM on their guitars for a reason. The Schaller M6 with the correct angle should just drop in, but stranger things have happened? Nobody, who owns a guitar, OVATION or not, including yourself, wants to have extra holes drilled in the headstock, especially if they don't have to at all. "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." (And, then, if you do drill the holes, you have find a way to cover them up/ fill them in, too?) ICYMI, every music industry manufacturers site has a disclaimer, which most people don't read, BTW,, i.e., "Prices and specifications are subject to change without notice." If you do a little bit more research, I'm sure you will find what you are looking for in the proper tuners on your guitar. Check with Al, first. He is THE go-to guy for OVATION parts, I hope this helps.

Location: Phoenix AZ | Glad this worked out for you Randy. Keep Al's number handy, he's a treasure trove for Ovation guitars and parts.
I'm happy you got the Ovation tuners. I didn't want to post this earlier while you were looking for Gotoh's but in my opinion that would have been a mistake. I've never "upgraded" any guitars to Gotoh tuners, but I sure have REMOVED them from several guitars and UPGRADED to something better. Just my opinion. |
