I'm sending my 6758LX in for replacement (no, no - it plays beautifully, but it's got a nasty dark streak perpendicular to the grain all the way across the lower bout) and I was discussing with Master Budny about the wisdom of putting an OP-Studio in it. I was curious about what effect the onboard compressor/exciter would have on a 12 string. He said he hasn't tried it but thought it would sound great.

It would be no small piece of change to do it (unfortunately, they don't give those things away), so I'm giving it some thought.

Any opinions, theories, experience?

Just an idea...
Hold off until the VIP becomes more common.

I didn't like the VIP that much.
And I have no idea if they are going to propagate through all the models anyway.
My idea with the Studio was to see what I could do with the compressor/exciter on a 12.

At least to get an idea of the results.

FWIW - it does pretty much exactly what you would expect it to. If you're playing out then it's one less thing to carry but for home/recording use it doesn't do anything you can't already do with your software. As a straight financial proposition it doesn't really work. Given the choice I wouldn't pay the extra. It may be better suited to a six string - it's very easy to overdo it with the twelve.
Remeber who's opinion this is and feel free to ignore it.

I'll remeber that.

Thanks for the insight, guys. Maybe I can talk JB into letting me have it as a beta test...
