Hello all. I'm glad I found this site.

OK, I'm inexperienced with Ovations. I've played a few. Years ago I played a 70's non-cutaway a friend had as a caretaker for another friend and recently a few of the newer Celebrity models but I don't know which model numbers. I was not impressed with the Celebrity's I played.

OK so I'm looking to purchase an Ovation, preferably USA and used, for around $700 or less if possible. Here's what I'm looking for.

Wood top Natural-- I'm not a fan of colors…unless it's a really nice sunburst
Center hole
1 11/16" at the nut
I want it to have a good acoustic sound when I sit down alone to play it but do NOT want a deep bowl.

Fast, easy to play neck because I want to do a semi-suedo Pop/Rock/Jazz group doing material like Santana, Allman Bros, Bruce Cockburn, Steely Dan, Kenny Rankin etc. Playing lead and rhythm, with vocals as well. Taking a tune like "Moondance" or "Just The Two Of Us" with vocals and improvised solos on guitar, piano, and another instrument, plus bass and either percussion or drums. I have a good PA and guitar amps and NEVER have a loud stage volume. I'm in my early 60's and can still hear the 17K signal test on one of those Brain teezer shows on SAT TV.
I'm good at electronics and mechanicals. I'm not a big fan of the "quack" of UST's. I own a 70's Guild D40(nut is too narrow), Martin OMC-28 (nut is too wide), Recent Breedlove Discovery Dread (1 11/16" at nut) that plays pretty well and sounds good but would be tough to do the above material all night on doing a lot of solos.
Anyone use K&K pickups with an Ovation?

OK, I hope I've given you enough info to point me in the right direction….or tell me I'm nuts no offense will be taken. LOL

Thanks for your help!

Thanks !

Check eBay or Reverb.
You can also look in the "For Sale" here.

Most Ovations have a 1 11/16" neck... there are exceptions.
If you don't want a Deep Bowl, you could consider a Mid-Depth bowl.
Also, the Contour Bowl was designed for people who don't like "bowls" at all.
The Contour Bowl is quite comfortable and designed to feel similar to a "wood-box" guitar.

As to pickups... if you'd like a K&K pickup, I imagine that you could install one into an Ovation.
I have owned MANY (well over a hundred) Ovations...
And I have NO IDEA what a "piezo quack" is.
I have never heard one, so people must be talking about some other pickups besides Ovations.
You can install whichever kind of pickup you'd like once you buy one.

As to the type of music that you can play with an Ovation...
There have been famous musicians who play ALL kinds of music on Ovations...
From Classical to Flamenco to Punk Rock to Zydeco and other forms that defy description.
HERE is a partial list... (if it will load )

Anyway, I hope that helps.

Thanks, I guess my main concern is playability and the best acoustic sound I can get from an Ovation. I realize it's not a wood box guitar so some compromise is necessary.

Any thoughts on a 1767 Legend?

Never mind….it's a deep bowl. I need to do more research I guess.

Interesting... I play Ovations because they sound better than wood-box guitars.

1767... That's a good one. It's an A-braced Legend, and many are in agreement the A-braced Legends are some of the best sounding Ovations built.

I've upgraded your status. Feel free to ask your question in the main forums where everyone can respond.
