Hi all, thanks for having me :D
Bass Lever on the OP-24E preamp seems broken or out of socket, probably prior,,
I can't for the life of me figure how to remove the rather large Preamp,,,

I hope I don't have to replace, I just now read Ovation will be closing ? How can they do that to such a tradition ?

I hope some one here knows what I need to do, I love my Ovation !!!

After looking more, I found what looks to be a match from Eldery's site here:
http://elderly.com/items/20U-13319.htm
Looks the same as mine including the fretboard and preamp control looks exactly the same,,, the outer accent paint looks a little different.
Wondering if the plate face on the preamp is a sticker like some mentions , because it sure does not look like one.
It is a '97 according to serial number "date your ovation" page. I bought it new I think in 2000. I had about 4 friends grab Martin's, Fender's Gibsons to compare against the tone of this Ovation. It had better tone acoustically than all of them, even the big body acoustics... It was a happy no-brainer moment.

I find lots of posts about the op-24+ and C, but none about the OP-24E ...
Hope I can fix the lever because the preamp works and sounds great, just need to fix that lever for Bass tone control ... Tough adjusting it with the backside of an exacto knife...

Okay... The OP-24E is just another in the family of similar preamp that includes the OP-24, OP-24+, and the OP-24+C.
Yours only has an "E tuna".
But all of that family of preamps has the same design...

This is the whole preamp module of an OP-24+.

I have never taken one out... But I know that underneath the black sticker on the front there are four screws/bolts, one in each corner.
I have owned Ovations that had those bolts showing.
So, I am thinking that if you carefully peel-back the corners you will find those screws.
Be sure to pull-off the slider knobbies.
Once you remove the face-plate screws, I think that the whole unit might fall into the guitar.

HERE is a thread that shows photos of OP-24+C units disassembled.
That might give you an idea of what you will be dealing with.
It seems that the output jack wire is permanently attached to the unit, at least by these photos...
So be aware of that when pulling it out.
You might want to disconnect the output jack first.
I hope that is helpful.

BTW-- Does your preamp work? Even with the faulty Bass slider?

Hi Old Man Arthur, The preamp sounds great, and no noise when moving sliders. And thank you for a great response.
Hard to describe, but I can lift the slider as if to pull it through the face plate, but there is what looks like white plastic around the end with just a little of the lever metal below this plastic.
I don't know how the lever fits into the slider, but was hoping to take it out and fix it some how. I would need to access the preamp getting right to the slider, where the lever attaches.

I will try for a 4th time to get the face sticker off, it just looks like plastic to me, lol... flat black, red around tuning lights, and flees like plastic texture, lol... I usually fix all my own guitar issues, although not a luthier by any means.

If I fail and ruin this face plate sticker, am I out of luck to get a replacement?
No idea what I would replace this with if Ovation factory doesn't have it.

After looking over all the pics, I see I would need to take the cover off the preamp, I do believe. Wish there were a detailed pic or schematic,,, I sent an email to Ovation, with description of what is wrong and what I "thought" needed to be done. Seeing these pics, hoping the cover off the preamp, I can access the lever/slider assembly connection.
Not sure until I get into it, but maybe a dab dot of cold weld for the lever end, plastic superglue to the plastic. This is rather stiff slider action on all sliders, so the don't vibrate and move. I don't think I could use heat on anything involving the lever or slider... too small, to close.. .

After all this, I'll wait for your reply, or someone that has familiar experience with this,,, I should have gotten this fixed right away, as warrant might of covered it, or at least, had replacement parts available.
I am still waiting for reply from Ovation...
Oh, one more thing,,, Uuuggghhhh !!! LOL

Thanks for the info :D I've searched everywhere for info on this. From what I've found, very few 6868 Ovations have any posts, and no info about this inside of the op 24 preamp, lol...
Old Man Arthur was a big help so far.
I'll see if I can find help in the main forum as well..
