Joined: September 2013 Posts: 14 Location: Hawaii | Aloha, I'm new to the forum. Found the site by chance while searching for answers concerning my Ovation. I have a Ovation Legend 12-String, model 1756, that I purchased new back in 1985. I recently discovered 2 issues with the guitar: 1) The top is beginning to separate from the bowl up near where my right arm rests over the guitar. the separation is about 6-8 inches. 2) Discovered the upper portion of the saddle, just above the Low E strings has broken off. Anyone have any idea on how much Ovation will charge for repairing the separation? I believe the guitar is out of warranty. Someone suggested that I repair it myself using carpenter's glue and a wood clamp. Also, anyone know where I might find a new saddle for the guitar? Would like to keep as close to the original part # as possible. Mahalo Jack

But, I no longer have the original sales receipt. And, I don't recall if I ever turned in the warranty registration card back then. Those are two requirements for warranty repair, according to Ovations website.

Even if it's not covered, no one is going to do a better job of repair. As far as Warranty, it would be great if you had the info, but you might have "enough" info from memory on where you bought it and when to line up with the info they have. It's worth a call.

Joined: September 2013 Posts: 14 Location: Hawaii | So I've been emailing back and forth with John Budny of Ovation - explained my issues. 1) Concerning the saddle. He offered to mail be a new saddle, or if I prefer the complete saddle=pickup assembly then it would be $80. I opt for the saddle only which he will be mailing out to me. 2) Concerning the top-bowl separation. He said it wouldn't be a warranty repair (didn't say why but I'm guessing because of the issues I indicated - sales receipt and warranty card). Shipping cost would be approximately $100 each way - That's about $200 give or take. Add in the total cost of repair which wouldn't be determined until they had a chance to inspect the guitar . . . I just don't have the money to do that. John did say that I should be able to find someone locally to re-glue the top to the bowl. I've talked to a couple of people locally. One guy at Island Guitars said to use regular carpenter's wood glue. It's obvious he knows nothing about Ovations as we are not talking about gluing a wood top to a wood body - he even went as far as saying not to use epoxy. Another guy (Ty at Guitar Works), whom is an authorized Ovation dealer and highly recommended originally said if I brought the guitar to him to look at, he would more than likely send the guitar to Ovation for the repair. When I told him what Island Guitar said about using wood glue, Ty said to use epoxy instead - implying I could do it myself. Any recommendations on the type of epoxy to use - so many out there?
