Seeing a Black IDea at music123.com as a color option other than platinum..... Is this a good sign?

Yeah, I saw one of them a few days ago.
I had to check to make sure that it wasn't a misprint.

Looks better than the silver, if you ask me.

Looks like the preamp itself is still silver (I'd like to see that in black)...I do like the -5 guitar though...

Welcome back Dave!

The platinum is actually quite attractive in person and adds a bit of panache to a cheap guitar. It's not a glossy finish ... and from the picture it doesn't look like the black is either. I'm not sure I would've bought a black one.

If one ignores the attributes of this guitar..... is having a new color meaningful as far as a indication of life on the Ovation/Fender marketing plan?
I keep waiting for Fender to kick something off and the silence is deafening. The Slipknot endorsement is certainly not going to be enough Did FMC really buy Ovation to just to build Guild guitars in Hartford?.
Maybe all it will take is a Gibson type product placement in the Glen Campbell edition of Guitar Hero .....(that was a joke, kinda)

Fender didn't buy Ovation. Fender bought KMC, of which Ovation was just a small part of it. Sorta like Mercedes bought Chrysler and the PT Cruiser just came along with the deal.

A few years in and the plan seems to be 1) pump up the Ovation products profitability by moving production offshore and 2) consolidate/modernize Guild production into the New Hartford plant.

Thus far seems to have been successful.
