I'm getting ready to fly this weekend and want to carry on my guitar, but have had difficulty in the overhead compartment on some planes. I've done it quite a few times before and many times had to check it at the gate ): I'm flying Delta this time from Flint to Dallas, via layover in Minneapolis.

It is my case of choice for my SSBs, not so much because of weight or size, but rather because of the shoulder straps and, the biggest reason of all, it isn't so hard on door jams, furniture, car interiors, and anything else that it comes in contact with. Flown with it only once, asked for a seat in the rear (where I knew I'd be seated in the first wave), then got to the overheads early so there was room. No issues whatsoever.

They've been the home for my 1115 for years since that's the guitar I play out with...trying to lighten the load. I never thought it was smaller than the hard case. It has the same fuzzy inside and foam core, but swaps the plastic shell for Cordura. The outer fabric gets beat up after a few years. The stitching starts to come apart and zippers pull away from the Cordura; however, I've had wear issues with the black hard cases like lots of little cracks in places that never took a hit. I do like the outside pockets on the Zero Gravity. I think it's a much handier case.

It should arrive today, and I'll be using it for the trip. I really like the backpack strap idea and a little lighter carry. I haven't forgotten however a recent post about a certain Cedar-Topped Elite taking a hit on the ground and getting busted up. So I realize I will also have to take special care and extra precautions. I wish Ovation would design a special hard case that is a bit better in tight spaces though. I guess that's just the nature of the beast when one owns nothing but deep bowl guitars. Anyway ... I'll post a review after I get this and use it on my trip.

Joined: September 2005 Posts: 3619 Location: GATLINBURG TENNESSEE :) | Well, I promised to give you all a review on the zero gravity case upon completion of my trip... When I received the case I was impressed with its appearance and all the nice additional pockets. The deep bowl(08 Collectors) had a nice fit and was lighter than in a hard case. The carrying straps were nice for freeing up my hands. Now the down side ... I found no difference in size, and it wouldn't fit any better than the hard case in the overhead compartment. I ended up having to check the case and wrap my guitar in a jacket and neck pillow, and stowed it in the overhead compartment. This was in a very small commuter jet, so I was suprised it fit at all. I ended up having to do this 4 times, so you can imagine my anxiety about it all. I'll oviously not try that again. It's been a lot better in the past just gate checking the guitar in the hard case. The case DID take a little beating up in the shuffle and ended up dirty, with a small tear in the fabric. SO ... I'm sure I'll still use the case a lot in the future, but only for local use. Does anyone know if the stories about Jim Croce's guitar/case crash survival are actually true? or just another urban legend? (Urban Legend ...'sounds like an Ovation guitar model)
