I upgraded to the new RC-30 double pedal looper and had a chance to mess with it for the first time last evening. It’s a pretty slick unit. One thing I immediately noticed different from the RC-20 is that the left pedal operates in a record-overdub-playback sequence whereas the RC-20 uses a record-playback-overdub pattern. Although the RC-30 can be programmed to operate like the RC-20, I prefer the ability to hit the pedal only once to immediately initiate the overdub sequence for live on-the-fly use. The track delete feature is also less cumbersome on the RC-30. However, the primary reason I upgraded to the RC-30 is for its 99 banks and up to 3 hours of recorded memory with unlimited overdubbing, a big improvement over the RC-20's 11 tracks and 16 minutes of memory. Another cool feature is one-shot playback which allows a recorded track to be pre-programmed to play back one time only (as opposed to continuous looping), so for those few occasions where I want to lay down a backing track for an entire song, I can program it to play only one time through. Pretty cool for live performance. The expanded memory and storage banks allow the capability to build a large inventory of my own backing tracks. With all the software programs available today, I realize there are other ways of creating backing tracks, but keeping them stored in a pedal on the board sure is convenient when you’re playing solo. I haven’t gotten into the FX or rhythm functions yet, although I typically don’t use the latter. There’s nothing like experimenting with new gear.

The "one shot" feature sounds intriguing. We used to have all sorts of issues with signature elements that were in a tune, but they were just one shot deals. Maybe twice in the tune, but not a loop.

Things come to mind like the 1/4 notes keyboard part in "everybody want you". Dragging a keyboard rig to play one note 16 times in row in two parts of the song (something like that) was a real drag, but it isn't that song without it. Same for a lot of intro's and effects like the jet at the end of Jet City Woman. It just kinda needs to be there.

All of the more portable solutions at the time were not really useful live.

Very cool possibilities.

Maybe I should dump my RC20XL while it still has some value.

I'm still keeping mine on my home practice pedal board.

Hello Music just had these as their one day special today for $220 with a $30 discount for October.....net $190 which was a great deal.

I have bought several things from this company.
They are 24 hour sales so you can't procrastinate.

Anybody who is interested in getting on their daily special can email me for info and I will provide the link.

Whoa! That's a lot less than I paid, and I had MF match an on-line competitor's listed price I thought was already super low.

Yeah, their 1 day sales are usually 25-35% less than anything I normally see.

but like I said, you can't "think" about it cause some items sell out in hours but at worst case you still only have 24 hours to decide and buy.

My average savings over the "best" price I can find has usually been in the 30% range.

Brad, thanks for the info: I have been debating getting the new RC-30 and selling my RC-20...the longer looping time is a definite plus...
