My longtime friend and Bass Player for the Silk and Steel band, Ed Rowe, passed away this morning after a short fight with lung cancer. We toured together for nearly 4 years in the late 70's and were high school friends in different bands. We opened for several big name acts in 1978 and 79 and were able to record an album at Alpha Audio in Richmond Virginia in 1979. We lost track for a few years but the entire band was re-united in the digital age last year. We had plans to get together for a reunion gig; unfortunately,it didn't happen. My other band mates are in touch again and we will be having a memorial get together in the Spring with a Memorial Jam as well. Ed was probably my oldest friend and I will miss him greatly. He leaves a wife and daughter.
No, he was not famous; he never had a hit record or played with any larger touring act other than Silk and Steel. But he was a lifelong musician and long haired humanitarian who always looked for the good and peace in others. He will be greatly missed and well remembered. He played several fine basses including a '71 Jazz Bass and two beautiful Rickenbacker's. His only acoustic was an Ovation Balladeer he bought from me in 1977.
Rock on my friend!
R.I.P.

Sorry to hear about your friend. The passing of a longtime friend is always tough ... especially a bandmate.

Ed sounds like a cool dude. Sorry to learn of his passing.
Remember him as he would want you to... And look forward to the Memorial Jam.

Ed was a huge fan of Model Rocketry and had won several National events...his last one was massive: I used to joke with him that anything that big needed a stewardess, a flight plan, and an alert to Homeland security. We plan to include his ashes in the nose cone of his last unfinished Rocket and launch it in the spring...Ed would love it! Thanks everyone for your responses...I will forward them to his family.
