in my search of 1773LX I've also found a 1763 (new at a VERY interesting price).
Are there important differences between the two models? |

Location: Phoenix AZ | Neck width, Top, Bracing, neck design and attachmant, Truss rod, Headstock, Electronics and Bowl are all different. Basically two completely different guitars. Depends which one works for you. I have played both and personally prefer the LX model very much. I imagine the 1763 is about 1/3 the price so it really depends on which one meets your needs. If you expect the 1763 to be exactly like the LX for far less money, you will be veyr disappointed. Dave |

Location: Boise, Idaho | I have a 1713 (like the 1763, but without the cutaway) and really like the guitar. I haven't played the 1773, so can't really comment, but if you like the 2 inch neck of a classical guitar the 1763 may be a good deal for you. If I had to choose between a 1763 and a 1773 at 3 times the price, I'd probably go with the cheaper one, just because I'm cheap and doubt that I'd get 3 times the value out of the 1773. If the price was closer, I'd probably go with the 1773. |

Location: Orange County, California | Just to mix it up. I'll share my opinion. My 1763 was my first Ovation, and the first Gutiar I really owned outright, bought and payed for all by myself, so I'm a little sentimental, well, maybe just mental. While I like the 1773/6773, they both lack the 2" nut width and 26" scale of a "true classical". They are both infinitley better guitars in so many ways, it's hard to compare them to the original classicals. However, if the 1763 is a good deal, and you're willing to play some different strings until you find the ones you like best on it(Savarez 520P1's for me), you will not be disappointed in the guitar. Just know what you're buying going in. It will never be a 3lb flamenco guitar (neither will the LX models). It is VERY FOLKSEY, and LOUD. The OP24 preamp while dated, is still considereed a benchmark for some (great sound, few bells and whisltes). If you indeed found one "new" it's been hanging around since at least the early 90's Mine is an FRG (factory reconditioned guitar), which means it had some minor problem that caused the factory's QC dept to look at it twice before it left. I (and many who buy FRG's) could find no flaw. Knowing the nature of nylon stringed guitars, it probably wont be you last guitar you buy, or the first one you pick up to play often when you have other guitars. Save you dough, grab the 1763. There value has stabilized, and you could probably get your money back out of it if you wanted to upgrade later (after some used 1773LX's show up on ebay, and the prices drop too).
