Hello, up for sale is my 1974 Martin D12-20. Other than a pick guard replacement she is all original and probably is the nicest, most original, unmodified, and unrepaired D12 Slothead I have seen for sale. The guitar has incredible tone, projection, and a full 12 string sound with deeper bass than most of its 14 fret counterparts.

I purchased this from the original owner and I have not had to do anything to it, other than change the strings a few times. I searched everywhere for several months before finding this one. My decision to buy this one was based on the fact that it was the most original and best preserved models that I encountered.

I would rate this D12’s condition as excellent…especially compared to many of the others I have seen on eBay in the past few months. I think the pictures represent it fairly well, but the lighting is a bit poor and I am sure you will say the pictures don’t do it justice when you see it.

I have to say that the Kolb tuners are absolute works of art! I have always been partial to Waverlys, but not in this case! The pearloid buttons are beautiful, the gearing mechanisms are very impressive, and the engraved gold plated areas are a very nice touch. The tuners all work perfectly and look practically new.

I have been all through the inside of this guitar with a light and an inspection mirror. The inside of this guitar absolutely appears brand new and clean. There is no evidence of any cracks and no sign of any repaired cracks. There are no signs of any loose braces. The bridge plate is rosewood and appears to be in great shape. I think the pick guard must have been replaced before things got bad enough to cause the B string crack that so many of these guitars suffer from.

It plays exceptionally well and sounds amazing! I do not think it has had a neck reset, which is inevitable on these guitars. I don’t think this guitar will require that work anytime soon. The frets have much less than average wear for a guitar this old. You will not need to refret anytime soon. In my opinion, the neck is straight with the desired amount of relief.

There are some impression areas in the finish on the sides of the guitar and those have been shown in the photographs. There is a very minimal amount of finish checking in one tiny spot on the upper bout and a tiny finish check on the top of the guitar near the end pin block.

The rosewood on the fret board and bridge is absolutely exceptional....very beautiful. The back of the neck is nice and smooth and undamaged. The case has seen better days, but it is the original "steal me" blue case and does a fine job protecting the guitar.

Price is $1540 plus $30 for shipping in the continental U.S. Thanks for looking!

Just thought you might enjoy seeing Clapton with his D12-20....his is obviously a later model like the one for sale here. Yeah, he does a better job playing his D12-20 than I do mine.

Yours is in much better shape than mine. But then mine is 6 years older and looks like a horse that has been rode hard and put away wet.. They are a great sounding 12 strings. Much better than the ones Martin has out today.
