This one is for you electric guys. I have a Behringer amp with a bunch of built in effects, but it's a pain to change from one to the other. I can get a used Digitech Control 8 for $75 and wondered if I could program it with a bunch of the effects on presets. I've read the literature, but I don't really speak the language. Any opinions in plainspeak?

I thought Behringer had a midi floorboard controller available for their amps.

No experience with the Control8, but the product description says it's a swiss army knife.
I scrolled through one of Behringer's amp manuals online. It had a set of MIDI Implementation tables providing the preset numbers, etc.
Looks like it would work... which amp do you have? If I can pull-up its manual online, I can translate and walk you through it.

Manufacturers' floorboards are usually preprogrammed for their gear with a mode providing dedicated stomp buttons for each effect, etc. I've seen floorboards with preprogrammed options for other makers' gear.

Are you looking to kick in effects on the fly, call-up a preset of settings, and/or do everything including parameter changes realtime?

I use this little foot pedal and interface box to select preamp presets and trigger amp functions.

The preamp allows me to save and recall sets of settings on its front panel.
The preamp's MIDI interface allows me to access the presets via the MIDI Mouse (or any controller).
The other MIDI-gizmo replaces the footswitch on my Rivera amp and also provides four MIDI-switched 1/4 inch trigger jacks.

A footboard with dedicated stomp buttons and a couple expression pedals would be nice... please send donations to, Noah's MIDI Footcontroller Fund

Thanks, Bruce. Yes, my amp, a Blue Devil 112 has an available effects pedal. The amp basically already has the effects from the footpedal built in. The Behringer footpedal doesn't do as well in the reviews as the Digitech, although it has 2 foot pedals for the parameters where the Digitech has one.
Yes, I'd like to change the effects on the fly by preprogramming the buttons on a footswitch. My biggest problem with them amp is that the buttons and print is so small that it takes me forever with my my lousy eyesight to try another setting. I figured with a programmable switch I could preprogram 7 or 8 switches and then just go through those until I found the one I wanted. Plus the Digitech is available for probably less than the $75 they are asking for it.

I'm not up on digitech - but the behringer fcb1010 is an excellent workhorse. I've had it rigged for the ipod, drum machine and some pc stuff - any midi supported gear. The programming can be a bit challenging - but there are tons of resources on the web and you can probably find the sys files you need already done!?!?

It's all way over my head. I was trying to come up with something simpler than just pushing the buttons and turning the dials on the amp.

Simpler is in the wallet of the beholder...

You might find that Behringer's Plug'n Play solution is simpler in the longrun AFTER THE SWEETNESS OF THE Control8's PRICE FADES AWAY.

...but, we all want help on our own terms, so for you Mark, I will peruse the available documentation online for the gear you've chosen.

It's this simple: I can't see paying more for a foot pedal than I paid for the amp--$85. I figure it's like the remote control for the TV set. If it's as complicated as the remote for the DVD player, I'll never figure it out.

i'm with you on this one mark, i run a '69 les paul gold top through a 1956 gibson lancer amp and the only thing between the amp and the guitar is a 10 band e-q for some tone control that was severely lacking in 1956... imho simple or complex it is the individual approach that keeps things interesting...
