Location: Kingston Ontario | I was checking out a new music store. On the wall was an Ovation that looked like it had shrunk. The neck looked normal but the body was only about eitht inches wide.
I talked to the salesman and he said that this specimen was a travel guitar along the same lines as the Martin Backpacker.
He said it has been produced since the early 90's. It is a lot louder than the Martin.
It just night come into my collection.
Has anyone seen this model before? |

Location: Phoenix AZ | The problem I have with "travel guitars" is that they are still not quite small enough to travel all that easily (i.e fit in your suitcase) and they just don't play and sound like a full sized guitar.
I still pontificate that the best travel instrument is a ukulele. It fits right in your suitcase and it still plays and sounds like a ukulele (duh).
Dave
PS - Bagpipes are also a good travel instrument. When deflated they actually take up very little room. |

Regardless of manufacturer short scale travel guitars sound like crap at standard pitch. Tune them to the correct pitch for their scale length (usually G or A) and they sound a lot better |

Location: Kingston Ontario | I payed another visit to the music store to inspect this unusual Ovation.
The owner gave me a brochure.
The guitar is an Applause Voyager Model AA10-4.
The top is made of spruce. The scale length is 25 1/4" and it has 19 fretts.
It is a rather strange looking thing, although it looks more like a guitar that the Martin Backpacker.
Before leaving his shop, I did purchase a KAUMBA.
My DIDGERIDOO needed a friend. |
