| Just put a cc148 on layaway. I've been googling for info on it for the past hour or so, with minimal and conflicting results. Anyway, I'm looking for a run down on the specs and history of this instrument. For instance, I wasn't able to find any meaningful breakdown of what the model number indicates. ovationguitars.com doesn't seem to have anything which matches. Either that or I'm misreading something. |

Location: Dallas | Sisser - I'm a Celeb owner, too. I think they are great instruments, compared to mediocre models of other brand ilks. I love mine and am a proud owner, but the preferred guitars among frequenters of this site are USA made (Celebs are made by Asian folks who owe their asses, Freedom & incomes, to young American men with big rollers, who paid with Life & Blood to fight off N. Koreans & Chinee in the early 50's - if it weren't for these men - they would be helping to stimulate male goats for breeding, harvesting rice in sewage patties, and stamping out "Kim-Jung-Il is a cool dictator" buttons for Commies). I don't know about your model, but mine sounds GREAT & it's an OVATION!

Location: ma. | wow... i guess that answers your question Cissy. actually, if it's made in Korea the #'s and spec information might not match up with USA, but someone on this board could likely point you in the right direction. the store where you bought it may also be able to help you. |

I think most of the people on the board would more likely resent a Vietnam made guitar if it was war politics. The South Koreans did fight with the UN troops in Korea and did OK except for those conscripted off the street with no training. The opposition to asian made instruments is related to the feeling that they are being produced in factories with no skilled workers, IMHO the Celebrities I've seen seem to have very good workmanship, we may find ourselves in the same boat with Korean guitars as in the 70's when all Japanese acoustic guitars were ridiculed even though they exceeded some of the best American guitars especially the G acoustics, think Alvarez Yairi, Yamaha, Yamaki, Takamine, etc. The Celebrity's are affordable and are getting more and more good reviews from their owners.

Location: Singapore | I have to say that these Korean made Ovations sound just as good as their US counterparts. Since I got my Elite, a friend of mine insisted I sell him the Deluxe as he has been eyeing it for some time.
During the period of having the Deluxe with me, it never let me down, nor did it sound bad plugged in. It always had that 'Ovation Sound' though not as resounding as the higher end models, probably due to different grades of wood used. It was a great entry level Ovation and it was via this that I upgraded to an Elite!
There wasn't a serial number on the neck but a sticker with a serial number was found within the bowl. I checked with the Ovation site and the numbers do tally. (anybody noticed this? feedback please)Frankly, it doesn't matter to me where it's made as long as it sounds good and feels right. I've seen pros use worst and still sound good! After all it's still an Ovation and making entry level guitars is a good thing for the budget tight guitarist! Almost all major brands are doing the same thing. It's from here that we improve and learn till the time we can actually afford a higher end model.
Anyway, thats my bit!

ps: I'm gonna get a Korean Ovation soon for a dropped 'D' tuning. I don't have the funds for another Elite. :rolleyes: |

Location: The Great Pacific Northwest | All of the info in the reference section here is on the USA Models. I'm not sure if there is anything on the Ovation site for the imports, but I know there is no real serial number system for the imports. If they lineup to the USA list, it's by accident.
I think there are some mighty fine sounding celeb guitars out there. Do they sound like an Adamas?, well no..... nor like an Elite. But they sound better than most other guitars at the same price point. |

I was just plugging for our Military, our contributions to countries otherwise forlorn & destitute, and....Celebs . My father in law left some of his blood & flesh somewhere around the Chosin Reservoir....Chinee burp gun round. You guys don't mind me...I'm kinda a smartass clown ever chaince ah git ;) |

This board needs people like you that speak for every kind of Ovation. The Celebs are, IMHO, a good choice for many pickers. I had a cousin who was a Marine killed at the Chosin, but I never had to go there, they signed the truce a month after I joined the Army in '53, all my Korean stories are second hand, as my basic training cadre all wore the combat infantry badge from Korea and they didn't tell us 'cruits much, just kicked our ass and ran us into the ground as our arms streched from carrying the 9 lb M1. I was glad to get out of there and into helicopter maintenance.
I think a discussion of the Celebs is worthwhile and it sure interests me.
