I am going to have Ovation build an Adamas for me. I like the feel of a shallow bowl but I prefer the old style woven tops. Do you think the guitar will sound better plugged in with the old style woven top, or the new one? Also would you suggest the Optima or the OP-50 preamp. I know that I will lose sound quality with a shallow bowl unplugged, but it will be played mostly plugged in, Thanks for your input.

Dannyboy, I have an Adamas, and like you I play plugged in alot. I would really suggest the deep bowl. A deep bowl Adamas is truly magic. Such a good sounding guitar. I know you are use to the shallow bowl, but my old deep bowl Adamas is hard to beat....Paul Hebert

Deep bowl with textured woven top. I'm not familiar with OP-50. I have Optima on one of my guitars and like it very much. Dave

I ordered (and recieved) an old style Adamas last year and it's magic.

I went for the Optima preamp in mine because that's what I have in my Custom Legend.

It sounds very natural plugged in.

I have no experience with the OP 50 preamp.

The original tops were straight grain grafite, just made on a piece of woven fabric to get the pattern. Big weave on the top, small on the back, better glue adhearence. The ones that actually have woven grafite are the new ones. I haven't really played any of these to know what the cross grain weave does to the sound. A little bit stiffer but probably not much. Plugged in sound won't care if it's woven or not. I'd say go for the old style top but you decide......

My vote: old style top, mid-depth (if you ever play live, otherwise, deep bowl), Optima (sounds better to me than OP50), cutaway, scroll headstock and bridge.

Let us know what you decide! : )
