Joined: April 2004 Posts: 71 Location: Charlotte NC | Just wanted to step up and say hello. I've been lurking here for a couple of days. I'm proud to say that after about 34 years of wanting an Ovation (Since I was 12 so do the math and find that I'm getting ancient), I am finally an Ovation owner. I picked up a shiney 1771 LX-5 on Friday. I'd had my eye on it on Musician's Friend all week and stopped by Guitar Center to see what they had. It must have been meant to be because they had just the day before received their first and only 1771 LX and it was in my preferred color of black. It was like I has special ordered it. Although listed as 799.00 on Musician's Friend, GC had it listed at 890.00. I showed them the MF ad printout and asked if they could match the price, they said they couldn't because this was an LX-5 and the one on MF was a standard LX. I asked what the difference was and they didn't know. So....after much haggling and then leaving and coming back and working with someone else. they matched the MF price of 799.00 with case. I still don't know if there is a difference between and LX and LX-5. I've been a bass player in a church band for the last few years (Have a listen to us HERE) so I'm a little rusty on guitar, but I gotta say this thing totally sings. The unplugged sound is great, but the plugged in sound with the OP-PRO electronics is unbelievable. My fingers have calluses in the wrong place now from playing bass for so long so my fingers are currently bloody stumps. I just can't get enough of the sound though. At long last, I have my guitar for life. Anyway, sorry to ramble so long first time out. Heck this may be my only post so I may as well get it all out. I've enjoyed reading everyone's posts the last few days. It really helped solidify my decision on an Ovation ONCE AND FOR ALL! If anyone wants an Alvarez AJ60-SC Jumbo Acoustic Electric. It's up on the Bay until Wednesday. Not that I think an Ovation Fan club website is a likely place to sell it. :D Later! EDIT: PS. Almost forgot. Happy Easter!

As far as the Ovation quality, I can believe it. About the only downside I've noticed so far is that when I play standing up with a strap, the guitar kind of tilts upward at an angle as opposed to the top facing straight out. I got used to that fairly quickly though. The tour next year sounds fun. Anyway, I gotta git. Between the new guitar and the computer, my wife is feeling neglected. Talk to you all later down the week. Joe.

Check the lower portion of this link (The upper portion on model #'s won't apply to your newer Ovation but the color #'s are the same) Color code **** Enjoy your new LX and I know you'll post again!! (you've got to keep braggin' on your LX) and you're "hooked" now so you'll probably be posting about your other Ovations you'll aquire! **** Mike  (BTW - Ya'll are soundin' GOOD!)

LoJoe... go back to Guitar Center and demand they do the same deal, they have the 30/30 policy, so dont be afraid to bring that up. Also, dont be afraid to tell them that MF and GC are in fact the same comapny and they ought to match their own price! Speak to the store manager, stomp, get mad, get the difference in cash money back (not store credit).

I think we all look forward to those stories about the first experience with a quality Ovation especially if the guitar gets a good review as you have given yours. I am an acoustic nut, and I think Ovation has really done some great acoustic stuff this year with the LX's and some others, when the 12 strings start appearing, I may no longer be posting as my computer may have to be sold with the rest of my possessions so I can buy one. Guess it just depends on the location and staff education, but CharlieB is correct, as MF is *the* online arm of GC.
